Can't speak for the 6.4 Hemi, but have 2015 6.7 Cummins 3500 Dually, hauling machine. Owned Duramax for 3 prior trucks, completely satisfied w/ Dodge interior, handling, mileage and way truck was built. With the 3.73 rear end payload for 2500 Crew 4x4 6.4L 8ft Bed = 12K, for 15k need 4.1 rear end - that's what I went with, takes getting used to with regards to shift pattern, but essential when hauling heavy - Good luck and have fun!

I also wanted to add looking at the Mega cab model with 3.73 gear.

Mega Cab steals from the 8ft bed, but the trade off is nice! Post pics when you guys drive off the lot - but shop well, should be able to get $10k-$12k off MSRP easily!

If you plan to tow much at altitude, you may want to watch this towing test.

I was researching this same info hard about a month ago and this is certainly an excellent video to watch. The video clearly shows the transmission ratios from 1st to 2nd gear are way to steep along with the ridiculous computer management limiting the engine rpms when in first gear.

My opinion is that the 6.4 Hemi would be an unbeatable gasser combo with a better tranny and computer engine management. As it is the venerable old chevy 6.0 liter handily beats it even though it is clearly way down on engine hp and torgue compared to the Hemi. However when you add in the better GM tranny and the better GM engine programming then Chevy's entire package outperforms the Hemi entire package.

Similar Testing on Pick Up Truck dot com and the Chevy 6.0 got both better empty and towing/loaded mpg too and the 6.0 has never been known as a gas miser but durability has never been questioned with it.

Not pushing the chevy at all. I would love that Hemi myself with a better tranny....the same video can be seen of the Chevy 6.0 in action too.

PS do not believe the Hemi lie-o-meter dash read out on mpg either. It is 2 to 4 mpg optimistic compared to what the truck really gets by most reports of people who have them when they hand calculate.

My BIL has a 2015 6.4L if u can get a bigger gas tank, do it. He complains about how small it is. I have the Chevy 6.0L and it came standard with 36gal.

I think they have options on tanks for the regular trucks but if you want a really big tank get a C&C mine has a 52 or is it 54 gallon tank.

How did The Ford and Chevy do against the Ram? I had a 2003 Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi and my complaint was it needed a lot of RPM's to make any power even with 3.92 gears.

I haven't pulled the Ike gauntlet but I have pulled the mountains of NC VA and KY many times with my 5.7 Hemi power wagon with 12k trailer and I never dropped below the speed limit. I'm getting ready to make the same pull in a month or so with my new 2016 3500 C&C with dump bed 6.4 hemi. I'll be pulling in the 12 k range this time as well I don't expect any issues. I think TFL trucks are a bunch of doofs.

On a side note yes my rams with the 6.7 CTD make the same pull with same loads or more easier but the hemi doesn't have any trouble with it either.

To a little extent they are a little doofy at times, but that is part of the entertainment of watching them as well. The addition of Kent Sundlin (aka Mr. Truck) has been a nice addition to their personality list. As you roll through Kentucky on your hauls turn the reds on radio sometime. Marty Brennamen is a Hall of Fame baseball announcer not only because he can call a baseball game at a high level, but he also keeps you entertained during the slow times which keeps you listening - and yes at times he can be a bit goofy but it never gets boring. I can turn the reds on radio enjoy the game, enjoy the auxiliary non-baseball goofy entertainment, and still accomplish some work around the house/or mancave all at the same time (Win, Win, Win). I simply can not do any of that if I plop my rear in my recliner in front of TV.

Regardless, TFL has some of the better videos and are really some of most unbiased videos of any I have found (especially compared to the mag rags who seem to favor whoever gives them money) Even if you do not like all their conclusions all the results are there to see and you can draw your own conclusions. I agree the Ike Gauntlet is an extreme test that most of us will never do, but they have also been starting to do a 100 mile loops with like 5600 lbs trailer in tow (representative of an average weekender's boat or weekender camper) on more level ground. These are all excellent videos considering you can view them for absolutely free.

Watch the 100 mile loop of the Toyota Tacoma pulling the trailer and then watch the full size Toyota Tundra pull the same trailer. Fuel Economy results are flat out what they are. No biased anywhere in these videos as they are both Toyotas. Then watch the Silverado pull the same trailer same loop a few months later. I look forward to watching all other brands do the same test....

Sadly too many people simply get too upset when their favorite brand (or the truck they happen to own) is not the winner or has flaws that are pointed out.

What bothers me most about TFL trucks is they don't know the product most of the time. Like the trailer guy in the video posted in this thread trying to get cycle the display with the shifter buttons. He should have left the truck in normal drive tow haul and let it do its thing. But on a whole they do try and do somewhat unbiased test. Though Roman? Is a ford guy you can tell. Recently they done some test on gold mine trail and the power wagon hands down done the best but the commenters where all up in arms that they didn't test all the vehicles the same day. People have to realize for the most part they don't own these trucks and getting their hands on them can be tough. Overall in the video posted there was a little over a minute difference in the test and I can tell you with all the driving I do a difference of a minute to the top of a mountain isn't going to make a difference to anyone.

We used to have all ford trucks and vans in my fleet and the repairs and break downs got to be way to often. So we tried a Chevy 6.0 6 speed auto 2500 it did ok overall but lots of little issues. So we tried Ram and we had great results so added a few more. For me the Rams have giving me the best service so I'm sticking with them for now. My 2013 power wagon is by far my favorite of all the trucks I've ever owned.

Just a suggestion but with today's transmissions I would recommend the 4.10 rear end.

The only time I tow heavy is with my 20ft.PJ tandem axle trailer (3000 lbs) Kioti 40 hp tractor with front loader with 6 ft. bush hog.My figures=10,000 lbs.

Understandable I try to plan for the future. Having a more capable truck has never turned out to be a bad thing for me. The fuel mileage difference from 3.73 to 4.10 is negligible but the towing capability is greater. My power wagon has 4.56 gears and it does really well in the interstate if I remember right 2100 to 2200 RPMS. My new C&C I ordered with 4.44 gears. Not trying to say your getting the wrong gears just want you to be informed while you can still change it.

I agree with the gears. I gad the identical trucks back in the day, a 99 and a 01 F150, the 99 had 4.10 gears and the 01 had 3.73. Both trucks got 16 mpg but towing the same trailer the 4.10 truck did much better. It was a night and day difference how that little ratio change equated to seat of the pants pulling difference.

I have owned four dodge diesels. I bought them for the engine and kind of tolerated the truck. Maybe the newer ones are better my most recent dodge was a 2012 but I always have thought the fit and finish of the fords and GM's was way ahead of the dodge. I am in no way brand loyal anytime I buy a new truck I drive all three before I make up my mind. I had the 2012 dodge, traded it in a ford, and now have a GMC.
