Have had my 2016 L3901 TLB for about a year and a half. It痴 currently got 250hrs. It has been a good machine. However, we are currently building a house and have around 10 acres. In the past, I have rented mini excavators to do tasks (stump removal, pond digging, clearing...) but now am at the point where I could really use one. The BH77 is great for a occasional tasks here or there, but for putting in drainage, grading, small clearing, nothing beats a machine meant to dig (looking at 4ish ton class). I have been toying around with presenting my ideas (see below) to the 澱udget committee and was wondering realistically what I may ask in a private sale or expect to get on a trade at dealership.

1. Sell BH77 setup and keep tractor. Use cash towards used mini
2. Sell machine privately and use funds towards a new tractor (really liking the Kioti KC 3510se lately and 0%/84 is nice)
3. Trade in towards a new Kioti and used mini combo deal at local dealer that carries both

Thanks in advance for any clarity you can offer. Prices are all over the place when I look around at used equipment and good used equipment seems to be fetching a decent premium these days.

Is it an emissions machine or not? What are you wanting a new similar sized tractor for? IMO a Kubota backhoe mount assuming you have the 4 point subframe mount is far superior to the Kioti setup.

It is an emissions machine. My goal is to just have a tractor/fel for general work around home, snow, tilling, moving things with forks etc. then to purchase separately a mini ex to do all the digging/clearing etc. And yes, the BH77 is subframe mounted currently. Also, I like the 3901 but there are some items I would like to have. Mainly the remotes and cruise control that come standard on the Se’s (among a couple other things). Also, the L3901 doesn’t have the greatest capacities either.

Everyone has their opinions... so here's mine. You have a machine that you like, but don't feel it is the right tool for some of the jobs. So one option is to upgrade (?) to a newer version of the same thing??? If I was faced with the options you are stating and had the budget to do so, I would keep the Kubota and try to find a clean excavator to suit your needs. You can always sell one or the other later if you don't need it anymore. Right now it's a volatile market and there's no telling what prices will be like down the road... you have a machine you seem to like and it's a good time to hold onto it.

Yeah, that would be ideal with unlimited cash. But tough to get the budget committee to sign off on that, let alone work up the guts to present it to her.... That’s why I will at a minimum have to try and sell the BH77 to put towards the mini. There won’t be much need for the hoe setup if also owning a mini.

The backhoe is probably worth like 4K. For that price I’d probably keep it around.

You might be better selling the tractor and hoe together and buying a mini and a different tractor only.....

That was his option 3 and it’s probably the best one.

At the time I was devastated, and it was very expensive, but my "budget director" left for greener pastures 25 years ago!
Have managed very well without a permanent "budget director"!
Over those years, I have had two different non contract temps (the current one for 20+years), but as temps, they have clearly understood that purchase approvals are not part of the equation.
