laws governing what you can legally tow/what licensing you need vary state to state and vary based on usage.

You are talking about something different than what I am saying. They should have to state, on the window sticker, the SAE tow rating on every truck, or any vehicle that is tow rated. It should clearly state hitch, and GN rating and payload ratings. Not just on the door sticker, but on the window sticker.

I am not talking about folks like most of you guys on here, but on average Joes that pull their trailers one weekend a month, or less. Give them data, that doesn't have to be interpreted, so they will not buy, or be sold, an RV 4,000lbs heavier than what they are rated for. Nor would they have doubts about whether or not the truck they are looking at will pull the rig they have.

I also think RV dealers should have a very clear sticker on every RV they sell, what the axle, pin, and total weight of a rig is when they sell it. The dry weight label on most RV's is useless. It usually does not even include things like the refrigerator, or AC on the roof. Most are closer to GVW on the label than people realize. So if they buy a 5th wheel that says, factory dry weight is 8900lbs, "as sold" dry weight is 10,200, and GVW is 11,900. As sold, axle weight is 8,125, as sold pin weight is 2100,......etc. Then folks would really know what they are buying.

Labeling will never stop stupidity, that is for sure, but for those trying to do the right thing, it will help keep an over zealous salesman from pushing a too heavy rig on them. I knew my trucks weight, and what it's limits were in payload, and towing rating, but I constantly had dealers trying to tell me I could easily (possibly) and safely pull rigs that were 4-5,000lbs over my tow rating. Yet that have no concern for my safety or the safety of others I might injure when or if, an overweight rig gets out of control because it was too heavy.

If an SAE rating varies from state to state, then it ought to be labeled accordingly. For an older, used rig, total weight, and tongue/pin weight stickers. Hey, that have to get 15yr old cars smogged. It might ad a whopping $5-10 to the cost of the rig, big whoop. My local grain store will give me certified printout for $5.

Anybody here gonna guess the sticker price? I wonder with that new diesel how it's gonna compare with it's 3/4 ton and 1 ton Ford, Chevy, and Dodge competitors price wise.

Most RVs sold within the last 5-7 years have a yellow sticker on the left front corner and also inside the coach itself that lists the GVW, the shipping weight, and the cargo capacity of the unit. One thing still missing is the hitch/pin weight. But they do list the as shipped weight. And no, I'm not talking about a dry weight, I'm talking a shipping weight.
