2019 ford ranger review....

I just got a 2019 Ford Ranger XLT. I only have about 300 miles on it but so far, I am impressed. The warning system that lets you know you are "wandering" out of your lane takes some getting used to but its probably a good idea. Its just when you are not prepared for it. The power of the ecoboost 4 cylinder engine is also quite impressive. The ten speed transmission is so seamless that you don't realize how often it shifts. I also am amazed at just how quiet this truck is. This truck replaces a 2017 GMC Canyon that I thought was a pretty good truck but wasn't as quiet as this one.

So we will see. I had originally planned on another Canyon or Colorado (the lease was expiring on my Canyon) but the Ford folks won out this time.

Same here the GMC was at the top of the list to replace my aging F150 till I checked out the Ranger. My Ranger lane assist is not as aggressive as my wife's KIA which sets off audible alerts when you just get close. You can easily turn off the lane assist on the Ranger by pushing the end of the turn signal. I always leave mine on.

I few years ago we sold our 1987 f-150 with the 302 engine. Our Ranger seems to have twice the HP it had, yet it gets twice the fuel mileage it got. How could that be!!

I had a late 70s F-150 with the 302, and to say the least that engine was undersized for it! Gas mileage on mine ranged from 14-17, which wasn't out of line for a truck, but it was pretty anemic.
It tended to flood if you didn't start it just right, and was hard to start if it had been sitting more than a week or so. I sure don't miss carburetors!! :thumbdown:

We modestly looked at the GM products but found there HP was quite a bit less than the Ranger which we wanted for trailers. I still can't believe how how good of fuel mileage it gets AND still has so much power. Like you, we've been very impressed with its drive train. We have also liked the lane assist in it.. Please give us a more thorough review after you get more mileage on it. THANKS!

The 302 was never much of a power house even by the standards of the day. Just like the venerable 300 I-6 only thing the 302 had going for it was dependability, which Ford seemed to lose for few years around the turn of the century. (Tritons, 6.0 diesel...)

Got a AMP flip bed extender for the Ranger and installed it today. I had one before on my sportTrac and it came in handy not only for long items but to keep things from rolling around in the back.

It cannot be removed when the tailgate is locked. Both tie downs release immediately when the bed handle is pulled.

When changing lanes on a highway that is striped well it feels like you have a shimmy.
First time I drove it on the freeway I thought something was wrong. But I only had it 2 days then.
I got mine in April and like it a lot. A little over 8000 miles on it and no issues.

Doesn't the lane assist deactivate when the turn signal is activated.

The lane assist is not all that hard to ignore, but seems that txDon is correct that turn signal turns it off.. I like it.

I think the concept is a good idea. It just takes a little time to get used to it. It gives a little bit of a sensation of the truck wanting to slide just a bit. One of the first times I experienced it I was certain I was losing traction and I switched to 4wd. I just need to give my brain a chance to be "retrained".
