2019 ford ranger review....

We got an estimate today which was about $2000. The door needs to be replaced. The HS gale who backed into it was pretty shook up, so we've been asking the folks how shes going. The below photo shows the damage. Ya, we got snow.

Don't lower that window....just say'in.

Of course its 4wd. If not, we'd have to park over the winter with the numerous steep streets we have. Here, within the lake snow region, we don't see pavement for more than a month at a time. I can't say its 4wd is 10% better than all the other 4wd vehicle we've ever owned over the years. I will say we struggled to get the Tacoma in and out of low range.... lots! The ford shifting goes fine.
Pft. My last year at Tech (winter of 03/04) I drove my lowered 2wd S10 all winter. Sucked, but survived. My 4wd at that time was an 89 Toyota on 34" Swampers with welded rear spiders. Undrivable when slick. I tried. I wanted it to work. A lowered 2wd was better! Miss it up there, had a lot of fun. Worked at the now defunct Dan's Polaris for the late Jack Poynter. Made for a lot of good stories.

Anyway, killed some time at a Ford dealer in Bay City this morning before the kid's Christmas program. They had a Ranger Lariet for $46k. The biggest truck on the lot was a long bed, crew cab F250. Also $46k. Although I just checked their website and there's about $4k in rebates on the Ranger, none on the super duty.

They are advertising them for $27900 here... 4wd, towing package, and I don't recall what else. A new truck isn't in the budget for this year but somewhere down the road the Ranger will be something I'm looking at. My brother on the other hand is truck shopping; when I suggested he look at Rangers he turned his nose up. "I had that 1984 Ranger..." Is it possible that they've changed in the last 35 years?

I never thought they were bad trucks...2nd gen Dakotas and Rangers are about the only less-than-fullsize pickups you see any old ones of around here. Haven't driven one of the new ones yet, but ISTR the older ones kind of tight on leg room.

Is the damage much worse in real life than it looks in the picture? Hard to believe they'd need to replace the whole door for that.

The door was pushed into the beam that suppose to protect the passenger. Everyone has said "that door should go" and her insurance is covering it.

I had a 1983 when they first started making them and though it was a great truck. Then a 1985 4x4, and I now have a 2004. I don't know what his complaint was, but at any rate he's comparing apples and oranges.

I traded my 2007 for a 2019.
2 door XLT. I wanted the larger bed.
No snow here to speak of but I added the electric lock differential. I've got about 7500 miles on it now, since April.
I also went for the hard fold tonneau and the towing package.
MPG is right around 25 with the display showing average speed of 35 MPH.
I like it quite bit. I'm surprised Ford isn't selling more of them.

We can't comment on the old rangers, which went out of production quite a few years ago..... But this 2019 version is nice, by that I mean, really nice.. We've now got over 5000 miles on it and been appreciating it more and more..

And there's the thing...... I can get a stripped down brand new gas F250 here, for less than what Paystar was talking about for Canuck pricing.

Not hating on the Ranger..... far from it. I welcome it back to the market, and do like the option of a smaller personal truck..... just saying I'd be having a long hard look at my hauling Needs (not mall-crawl big truck Wants) before buying a new Ranger.

Ford is pricing to the market..... less choice in small trucks today, and, certain people will people will fork over big $ for trucks, esp. earlier in a production run.

Looks like this 2.0L diesel is now in the Transit

One step closer to getting the Ranger Raptor d here ?

Just so there is no confusion here, the F250 and the Ranger are not made for the same market, or uses. We got various "end of the year" discounts on our XLT, supercab which made it cost about 35K. This was quite a chunk less than what they wanted for the f150 similarly equipped.

I totally agree with your first sentence. We just used different words to cover the same ground.

35K USD would buy me pretty much the exact gas F250 that I would want up here..... but I'm one of these neanderthals that wants less bling on my truck :D , than many do today. In particular, I like that you can still do carpet delete, and shift-on-fly delete if you want to.

Big market, lots of choices...... enjoy what you buy, they are all pretty big fun
