2019 ford ranger review....

Put about 120 miles on the Ranger today, 80% at 60, 65 MPH.
Average speed says 36 mph and mileage is still at 24.6 - 24.7
I'm thinking neither of those are going to change unless I start pulling a trailer.
Just about 9000 miles on it so far, since the end of April when I picked it up.

Suspect you will find a sweet spot for mileage in that 60-65mph range.

For reference my F150 recent 200 mile trip mostly 65mph (~15% at 55) got about 24 mpg. But last year flat highway in OH at 70 it got about 20 mpg.

My '97 Ranger has never got over 20 mpg.

Oddly enough my 2007 Ranger got about 23- 25 also. But it had way less power than the 2019....and as you know those were considerably smaller.

I would have thought it would do better than 20 mpg at 70 mph, but most driving averages less anyway. The 65 number is great.

My 2004 Ranger hasn't either. I'm lucky to see 17, and on the interstate with a slight load it gets around 14. With those numbers it's no wonder that they stopped selling them for a few years.

You have the shorter cab and, I suspect, the smaller 2.0L engine. I have the slightly taller cab and the 4.0L engine. That generation of Rangers you could either get under powered (2.0L) or over powered (4.0L).

The F150 has sweet spot for highway mileage in the 55-65 mph range. This correlates the speed range of the EPA test to assign official MPG numbers. Above that range the mileage drops off. Suspect the new Ranger is similar.

Or the smaller V6 3.0, although I'm not sure when that got phased out. The original 2.3 4 cylinder was the same engine used in the infamous Pinto. Although it got an understandably bad rep not only because of the exploding fuel tanks but also because cars of that era were notoriously junk; the Pinto drive train was actually pretty tough and the engine was used in a lot of vehicles, both here and in Europe.

The new rangers are completely different than the ones Ford sold in the USA from 1965 to 2006. If you have the new version of them, please comments on on how you like, or dislike it. Or if you have any questions about the latest, greatest version of the Ranger, feel free to ask the owners who have been posting.. We sure love ours. Thanks!

I bought this '04 Ranger new back in 2004, had the 2.3 twin plug Mazda engine, would get 26-28 mpg, and was pretty snappy for the time. Hit a patch of black ice going to work one morning, barrel rolled, and totaled. But I walked away without a scrape. Was a really fun little truck, with surprising room for as small as it was. Although I would not want squeeze myself in there today! :drink:

Shocking to think my current F150 that is twice as big, three times as powerful, yet only about 4 mpg average less than that old Ranger!

Another mileage update.
Put on about 95 miles today, most at highway speeds.
Averaged 28 mpg on this trip.
Can't complain at all about my new Ranger.
