21 notches

I have no idea of this guns history, There is a mecanism on the stock that can make a movement in the guns pointing direction pull the trigger. And there are 21 notches carved under the stock, weather it is foxes polar bears or people i dont know, should like to though.
I would call the finish on this gun beeing on the more rough side of the scale.
Most likely used in some sort of trap as a spring gun.

It has been following the family the last 100 years

In the book "Outlaw Gunner" is a description of guns like that that were used by commercial waterfowl hunters/poachers. It was rigged like a punt gun, or small cannon, in the front of a sculling boat & loaded with a large load of very fine shot. The boat was skulled into position aimed at a flock of birds & fired, often killing or wounding 100-200 birds per shot. Also tales of the gun becoming detached & recoiling thru the bottom of the boat. The book is a great read for waterfowlers. MikeD74t

I have a gun that looks a little like that, you have lots more stock than I do but mine has 2 barrels?
