22 RIFLE

All this talk about 10/22s brought back memories of the carbine I had back in high school, that was 25 years ago, hard to believe the 10/22 has been around that long with few changes. I met hard times while putting myself through school after I got out of the military and sold a bunch of my guns, unfortunitely the 10/22 was one of them.
Well this morning I made a trip to Walmart and picked up a 10/22 carbine identical to the one I had 25 years ago. This is the first gun Ive bought in over 15 years. I have no idea why I decided to get it but it made me happy. I didnt even shop around, I just said, I'll take that one. I put it to my shoulder and it felt just like I remembered, like I had never gotten rid of my first one. Funny how a hunk of metal and wood can do that.
There seems to have been two changes over the years. The old one had a steel butt plate and the new one is plastic. The old one had a sling mount in the stock and the new doesnt, although, thinking back, I may have put the sling mount on after I bought it.

On the bright side plastic doesn't rust and it's lighter. Congrats on the purchase of a new old friend. :)

Mornin Ray,

I got the 10/22RB.
Just the standard carbine with blued barrel and wood stock. Thats what my last one was and I liked it.
Great Choice- That would have been my choice too had I not wanted the stainless barrel.
I was just saying to my wife I ought to go over to Wall Mart and ask them where's my commission for this sale. LOL

To bad we aren't closer together - We could do some target shooting and you could teach me all I know about guns.LOL

On the short issue, I don't even see them much anymore, but when I do they are more than long rifle. The sub sonic are very quiet though.
Not to hijack but, we all need to call our Reps ironically HB1022 is on the floor now, and anti-gun bills are everywhere . In Illinois they’re all but taking every guns away the 10 22 will be illigal. Please guys start calling, writing, and emailing your Senators and Representatives now. If you have never done it it’s a great feeling to get involved .

PS & Update
I had a little trouble finding this gun.
Wouldn't Ya know Ruger would discontinue the rifle I want.
I finally tracked one down after calling Ruger and their Distributor and a local Dealer.
