Ok here goes. I currenty own a X475 that I built a front bucket for. I posted pics of it and the hole I was able to dig with this unit. My wife and I are moving to a 5 acre half wooded parcel in the country this summer. I want to put in about 1 acre of lawn that is currently part of a field that hasn't been touched in years. In addition I will be digging a pad for a 30 x 60 pole barn and putting in a 150' drive. Do the owners of these 2210 think that this tractor will be capable of handling this? I will be getting the FEL, 62C deck, rear blade, landscape rake, box scraper and tiller.

The land that the driveway and lawn will be is flat with no trees. Same with the area the pole barn is going on.

TIA..

Just a thought, why not go up to a 4210 or another mid chassis, but no mmm, and keep the current tractor for mowing. The loader and other dirt tools will do a better job, you'd stilll have a great mower and there's always plenty of work so that two can be using them instead of one...

Financial reasons mostly. I can't afford to have both at the moment. The price of the 4110 is a little more than I can spend right now. Like I said we are in the middle of building and I have the driveway and polebarn and of course the landscaping to do.

It can do the work...but it will take you a while! Before I got my 2210 I rented a 4200 to dig about 70 ft of driveway, spend/level/pack gravel fill, and also to do some general landscaping. I was pretty happy with the work I was able to do in one long rental day. Then I got the 2210, and found that it can can do ~most~ of the same work but at a reduced pace. The only disappointment I have had is traction, you'll need to max the weight out on the 2210 to move a lot with it or do any serious digging. Also the BAR tires are a must, the turfs give up way too easy. Not sure about R4's but the 4200 had them and they worked well in my sandy soil.

Go easy on the implement size - 4ft boxblade for example, not 5ft! I don't think you'll hurt the tractor, but with smaller implements you'll have the traction you need to get the job done.

Good luck!

I would tend to agree with fgross335_2210 on this. But, You need to decide what you will be doing most with the tractor. After you are finished with the driveway and the yard you will probably be just mowing and some loader work. If you can handle doing the diveway and yard at a reduce rate than the 42XX series. Then the 2210 will be fine for you.
I currently have a 2210 and 5 acers, 3 acers mowing and 2 acers that need to be graded and seeded (this springs project) and a 150 ft driveway that needs plowing each winter and grading each spring. The 2210 meets all my needs without disappointment. Good luck in your decision.

I agree with the others. My 2210 has dug some pretty impressive holes for stump removal. If I was planning on doing the work you are I would either rent a larger tractor or wait until I could buy at least a 4115. Weight and hydraulic capacity is a issue on the 2210. The 2210 will do it, just a lot slower. I use turfs and that has never been a issue. The weight on a 2210 is light enough that either tire will usually give out before the tractor. I would much rather have turfs in the snow or on ice. Tire size no matter which you choose on the 2210 is less than optimal.

<font color="green">I mow almost nine acres with my 2210 and take care of an existing 475 foot gravel driveway using a 5 foot rear blade and a 4 foot box blade.

The box blade doubles as my rear ballast when using my 210 FEL. I did not fill my rear tires for additional ballast choosing instead to use wheel weights and adding four suitcase weghts to my box blade when needed. The added weight makes a significant difference when doing loader work.

Although I think a 4115 would have been more suitable to my needs but less friendly to my budget, I manage to get by with the 2210. Considering how many years I got by with just a Sears Craftsman 18HP lawn and garden tractor the 2210 was a major improvement. I have to maintain the perspective of how better off I now am than how better off I could have been with a still larger tractor.

You will see lots of discussion threads that deal with getting the largest size tractor you can afford and that makes sense unless you are so wealthy you can afford a tractor that is really overkill for the number of acres you own or the work you need performed. Sometimes I can't believe the size tractors some people have for their small place.

It is difficult for me to judge when a 4115 would do a better job without having used both tractors or using them side by side to do the same task. Some of the more demanding tasks I am asking my 2210 to do may in fact be more than even a 4115 can handle but I can't know for sure.

Ground clearance may be as much or more of a problem for me than speed when I get to digging and moving dirt around in wetter conditions. It hasn't taken much to sink the front end of my 2210 down to the axles and then I need to use the FEL to lift the front end back out of the mud with the rear wheels fianlly getting me the rest of the way back out.

Given that you have level ground to deal with the 2210 should do better for you. It is still slow but much faster than using a wheelbarrow, pick, and shovel to move dirt.
