2210 smokes on startup

Boy am I glad I logged on tonight!!! I didn't know this about the 2210 glow plugs. the dealer told me to turn the key to the ON position and wait 15 seconds. Though this will be the first winter for me and my 2210 this procedure has left me to conclude that the 2210 has no glow plugs. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifI couldn't find anything about it in the manual. I ran out just now and tried the tranny in gear and turn to START, the lights dim for about one second then a "click" and they get bright again. It is currently 50 degrees here, I can't wait till it get's cold again to try this. I have noticed -I had my dealer install an engine heater- that when I plug in the engine heater she starts real fast and clean. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

On engine oil, I think diesels get their oil dirty quick no matter what based on my experiences. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
My 2210 has 90 hours. it never used any engine oil. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Oh, and um, sorry to break it to ya fellas, no such thing as "break-in" oil. That's just what they call the first oil fill in a new engine, it's the oil that's in it during break-in, REGULAR OIL. ask any dealer for "break-in" oil and they'll laugh at you.

A special-blend oil developed to be used in rebuilt or remanufactured engines and new John Deere engines during the break-in period. Identical to John Deere factory-fill break-in oil.

- The first 100 hours of operation is critical to the life and performance of an engine.

Dave,

I'm glad you mentioned that your plugs are only on for a couple seconds. That was my experience too. I was logging on to find out if mine were cutting out too quickly. BTW, I added some of the magic Power Service potion that was recommended here to my fuel, so I'll see if there is any improvements after adding it. Lots of good information here.
I'm going to try to do the 50 hour service this weekend if the weather isnt too bad.
