2210 U-Joint

   / 2210 U-Joint #31
I had my 2210 in at the Ford New Holland Kubota dealer yesterday for its 100 hr oil change an lube up. I told them when I brought it in that that shaft needed lubing.

When I went to pick it up I asked if the tech lubed that shaft, he replied yes I lubed the pto drive-shaft, I asked what about the engine to trans shaft? he said Huh?

Service manager went out, slid under the tractor, and started to expand my vocabulary. They then put the tractor up on the hoist, 3 techs, one electric grease gun with the needle, 15 minutes more swearing, one guy held the flash light, one held the grease gun and the shop manager aimed into the fitting. All good to go.

They had some kind words for JD's engineering. Since the work order was allready done I didn't get charged another man hour for the 3 of them.

I figure if they are going to ding me 95 dollars for labor on an oil change that shaft is going to get some grease!

total bill to oil change, lube and service my snowblower that needed a $3 lock collar replaced.. $450.87 yikes! JD quoted me $240 for the oil/lube crazy parts are 87.34 ouch.

I hear ya but when you own a Mercedes, you pay for a Mercedes!!! JD Green refers to your wallet. :confused2:

Based on this post, I decided to take a look at this u-joint and grease fittings that are not mentioned in the owners manual. Sure enough, the are there. I took off the roll bar, fenders, and floor to grease the back one. I had to re-orient the zerk to a different angle so I can get at it next year from below. It still will not be and easy job. The front one can be reached with a long needle. But that back one is not so easy.

After turning the zerk to a better anlge, I can get it with the mower deck off, with the height set as high as it will go. The zerk needs to be slightly to the right. You can get at it from the bottom, but you will need to have a flexible hose. Your going to have to do some fancy bending of the hose.
