Thanks for the hints on the hydro oil gushing. Any thoughts on first manually pumping out 1/2 to 2/3rd of the oil before opening the flood gates? Would this work?
I guess it would be possible. I know I was glad that by luck (the only pan that would hold that much tranny fluid and fit under the tractor was loooong). :)

I'm performing the 50 hour transmission/hydraulic oil change on my 2305. This is probably a silly question to ask...is there suppose to be a washer on the transmission oil drain plug? I just went to replace the drain plug and there was no washer. Logic says there should be a washer. I'm pretty certain I didn't loose a washer (if there was one on the drain plug to begin with).

I don't plan to refill with new transmission fluid right away since I still need to buy a 12mm crescent wrench to remove all three bolts in the wheel well area (so that I can clean the screen and magnets), therefore I've got a little time to determine if I also need to buy a washer for the transmission oil drain plug. Thanks!

moose736,

I don't know if there is or isn't a washer on the tranny plug, I didn't do my tranny service. Do have a favor to ask: would you size the tranny drain plug?
I need to know the thread, pitch and size.

I am considering purchasing a FEMCO drain system for my tranny also. I have the system on the engine, and would like to have the same on my tranny.

I'm sure someone will be along who knows the answer to your question, AND BTW Welcome! to tractorbynet!!

Right. All bolt sizes on the JD2305 are metric (at least so far all are metric).

FYI - Engine Oil drain plug and Transmission/Hydraulic Oil drain plug = 17mm

I did find this thread that indicates the gasket part number (M808459) for the JD2305 transmission/hydraulic oil drain plug.

JGY, I'll try to get the specs on the drain plug. I wasn't sure exactly what you meant by FEMCO drain system, however when I looked it up on their website (FEMCO Draintechnology, responsible oil draining), I realized this is definitely the "way to go" if you are going to do your own maintenance. Thanks for the tip!

The specs on the JD2305 transmission oil plug are 12mm (diameter) x 1.25 (thread pitch) x 20mm length.

I like the Fumoto valve. Here's a picture
I put one on the Jetta, it's great!
Unless there is lots of ground clearance I wouldn't put one on if the drain hole is bored vertically. I can see them snapping off too easily.
