Anyone have any input on what pressure I should have in my front tires? The tire recomends 22psi, but it sure seems soft, especially when there's weight in the FEL. I was thinking about bumping it up to about 26psi.

Also, what would be the minimal amount of weight you would use for the ballast box. (53" FEL )

With turf tires, I would have to be at 22-25psi to keep the flexing down on the front tires. I don't have this problem with industrial tires, 20 psi is OK.

woodsleeboy,

I agree with johndeere2210's tire pressure recommendations. As for the ballast, I have the tires loaded on my 2210 which adds about 110# per tire. I find that OK for light work, but the moment I need to do anything heavy (especially with the 53" bucket), I put the ballast box on which I have filled with concrete. Remember, shiny side up! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

how much do you figure the box weighs? I was looking to be around 500-700 lbs

Your manual calls for 22 lbs, I think I would stay with that. Of course you might email Deere and ask them about it. But generally the manual has a reason for what they say. At least that is the way I feel about it.

Take a look in the owner's manual for the 200CX FEL. I believe it recommends a slightly higher tire pressure for the front wheels. I remember seeing it in that manual, but for the life of me can't remember the pressure it recommended.

Also, on rear ballast I believe it should be in the 700 Lb range. I use a 2048 box blade for rear ballast which is about 400 Lbs. The heaviest thing I lift with the FEL though are bales of Alfalfa so it is sufficient.

I use a box blade as well for ballast but I also fabricated a concrete block with metal bars that will hook to the back of the box blade when lifted.
If your tractor is under warranty and you have a failure in your front end drive gears shearing off, John deere will only honor your warranty provided you have the following, wheels filled with water,,wheel weights, ballast box on the rear.
They are requiring you have an insane amount of weight on your rear to take most all the weight off the front tires when you use the front wheel drive.

I run my turfs at 22-25 like jd2210 said with the blower or fel. and 14 for mowing. I have my rears loaded with ww fluid (i think 10 gals ea) I have 2 ballast boxes, 1 for loader work full of concrete and 1 for snow blowing that has around 250lbs of tire weights in it.
