At 111 hours a few weeks ago the engine will start to die from 2800 to 2000 rpms, then climbs up again. Now it runs and shuts down. Checked forum and tank cap vent is OK. Now I see that my clear fuel filter housing shows the fuel is being used till empty leading to shut down. You can then see fuel trickle in till full. Starts right up.
I changed fuel filter that was black and had some water too. Added fuel treatment to eat water and algae. 24 hours later same thing. I guess tank must be cleaned, and I heard that there is some type of tank filter or screen. Even if I pump out tank, how do I clean it? I heard from a poster to use low pressure air and blow backwards into tank. Won't any dislodged gunk just get pulled back to tank filter or screen?

After 24 hours, how does the fuel filter look? Debris and water again?

That is sure a short time for a fuel tank to become contaminated. Any clue as to what could have caused that? Parked outside? How old is the tractor with 111 hours ?

I'd drain the tank at least, rather than try to burn up fuel that I thought needed something to "eat" water and algae.
Drain and put in some fresh fuel and swish it around. Drain that too and observe fuel for any contaminants. Then decide if further cleaning is needed. Just my thoughts.

It is a 2007. Fuel filter looks brand new. It is parked indoors. How do I drain tank, no clue how this thing would come out.

I can tell you what happened to my old cub cadet........
Believe it or not, bugs in the fuel tank. Yes, bugs.
They apparently got into my gas can, ended up in the tank, and plugged the lines.

Thanks for that picture, now I now I must take to dealer. When I read about removing dash panel, forget it. This has a Curtis Cab that sits tight above the tank. Moving the cab, I would rather do something more pleasant, like shaving my head with a cheese grater while chewing on tin foil.

But... you don't have to remove the dash panel if just draining the tank through hose A. I'd sure try that before getting the head shave. :D Seems it might just remove the crud and water that maybe is in the tank. Catching the fuel to have a good look at what is there might also be very helpful.

This could be caused by the 'wax deposits' I read about over in the "Fuel and Lubricants" thread.

I spoke with dealer today. He said to drain tank via pulling off fuel hose at filter housing, add kerosene to swish around and clean. Kero should dissolve any gunk, and he added that there is no screen to gunk up or clog. That's what they would do before pulling tank....will try this week.....stay tuned.

That sounds like a good plan. Am assuming you will also drain and clean out the fuel filter at the same time. :)
