The hydraulics on my JD 2305 seem to have some hesitation, more-so than usual. I figure that its being caused by a low hydraulic fluid level or am I in left field with the diagnosis?

Can anyone tell me how to check the hydraulic fluid level in a JD 2305? I thought that the fluid fill under the seat would have had a dipstick or something, but apparently it doesn't. I heard that there is a window on the back of the transmission near the rear PTO shaft but I have a backhoe on the machine and getting to that window (wherever it may be) would be difficult at best.

Also is it normal for the boom up/down control on the backhoe to be extremely fast compared to the right control stick (dipper in/out and bucket curl). The bucket curl seems to take FOREVER while the boom up/down is wicked fast. Even at slow RPM the boom comes back up with enough force that when it hits the stop hat enough to rattle everything on the machine and send me bouncing for 2 seconds (if the stabilizers are already up). Just wondering if thats normal or if its just me.

The oil check window should be shown in the manual and it is about 1" in diameter. Hard to tell if looking at oil or not, but "not" is a white space. Add a quart to see if anything changes if you cannot find the window. Won't hurt to have extra oil there.

Maybe switch your hyd. hoses to see if one bank is slower than the other. Might have some debris or a screen plugged. The tech manual (on CD) may be of benefit to you.

Is this a new machine to you?

Also just try unhooking and rehooking QD's.

This machine is new to me. We bought it used from a private seller who used it to landscape his yard at his new home. It came with the owner's manuals but not the CD. Unfortunately the manuals are at my father's house and the machine is at mine.

I'll disconnect and reconnect the hoses on the FEL. The FEL only seems to have a hesitation between when I lower the FEL bucket to the ground and when it starts putting down pressure on the ground to lift up the front end of the tractor.

Are there quick releases on the BH hydraulics (not the Power Beyond Coupler)? I just think the way the hydraulics are laid out on the BH that the left joystick gets a higher flow of oil than the right.

Is there more than 1 type of hydraulic fluid used in JD tractors? I might have a bottle floating around for the JD 425 and wanted to make sure that it would be the same type as used in the JD 2305 or should I just go out and buy a bottle? Any recommendations? I would stick with the JD fluids but I think they are generally overpriced.

The early 2305's had a problem with air getting into the cylinders on the loader. There was/is? a fix for this from J.D. To try to purge out any air, try cycling the bucket all the way up and down several times with the loader arms up and down and see if that improves it.

JD fluids are what your JD needs. The little price difference isn't worth the risk, IMO. :)

The Hy-Gard is the tranny oil for the 425 as well as the 2305.
