2320/2520 MMM question

Well, the solution is to drive them, and see if they go fast enough for you. 4.5 mph is faster than you can push a walk behind for very long, and a whole lot easier! :D If you mow much faster than that you will complain about the quality of the seat....... not being rude, just saying that especially with R-4's you will notice more speed pretty quickly.

While everybody will have their own opinion of how fast is fast enough, I agree with you Chuck. I can mow high range with the 3320 so ability to speed is not an issue, however, I don't often go much over 5 mph - the ride is too bumpy and the cut suffers significantly.

I agree too, there has been lots of discussion about the mowing speed but without proper ground preparation it is a mute point.

I paid particular attention to smoothing and planeing my new lawn this year as I was tired of the bronc riding. No problem running full speed on my L130 and still a smooth ride, was about 2 mph before the rework. I feel confident the ground would be fine for full speed on the X749 will test this out before long.:D

That is the real solution, of course! If I tried to do that on my land I would be harvesting rocks for the next year.

That's where the SE suspension seat would come in mighty handy:)

That is why I have the rock bucket, still it is alot of work to capture all of them. I live in the Rocky Mountain chain, so lots of rocks too.

But isn't that missing the point. If you're bouncing so much a suspension seat is needed, consider what's happening to the mower height and quality of the cut as it bounces all over.

I wasn't referring to the ride in reference to the speed of mowing.
Just the quality of the seat itself. I'm still waiting for my 2520,but I understand the seats on the 2000 series could be alot better when it comes to comfort.
Jarring your body around at any speed eventually takes its toll. That is why I'm putting the SE suspension seat on mine:)

I have no desire to be bounced around in the seat while mowing. I was mainly asking the speed question because it was mentioned as a possible minus side to the 2520 purchase. My X500 is listed as having a 7.0mph top speed, however I most of the time I mowed probably around 3.5-4mph at my old place. Usually I mowed at the speed of a brisk walk. Cut quality seemed good at that speed and it was comfortable. I realize I have a more land to cut here (2 acres vs .75 acres) and will maybe want to bump my speed up a bit. I'm guessing the 2520's top speed of 4.5mph in low will be a good speed under most circumstances. I guess if I were in a big hurry and needed the speed on my flat ground, I could try high.

I'm rarely in a big hurry when I mow. It's more of a get out on the tractor and relax a bit while driving around the yard situation. :)

Plowing is a different story. My goal there is to get out and get the job done and back into the house. I'm pretty sure low would be required with the 54" blade for any moderate or heavy snows, while I could plow a few inches in high if desired? Any input on that thought?

Hate to ask again, but is there a way of locking up the deck on a 2520 with independent lift without buying the additional JD lock-up kit?

Thanks,

John

With the independent lift, if raise the deck all the way up then turn the independent lift dial to the highest position, the deck will be held up even when hydraulics bleed down.
