But part 4 is the isolator that's used in all the other designs. Thats where you do the final hookup. That should be easy to reassemble. Pull the bolts off the isolator and it falls apart. Opposite for assembly. That isolator is about $100 on eBay.

There is an access door on the right side just about shin high if you are sitting in the drivers seat. Problem is you need to pull back the plastic skirt to even see the door. the door or hatch is just behind that plug in the picture. This problem of greasing the U-joint next to the engine has been discussed ever since I bought my 2320 in 2007. My tractor is in the garage warming up as I type this getting ready for the morning when I was planning to tackle this really hard to get to Zerk. I'm also installing a water temperature gauge.

Here are a few pictures of the access hatch.

Forgot to mention, I believe John Deere wants to sell you the entire drive shaft just to replace the u-joint. There is a Kubota U-Joint that will fit this drive shaft and a fraction of the cost of the complete drive shaft.

Well got a call back from the dealer. He said Deere would pickup the cost of the shaft Assembly, and the dealer is going to reduce some of the hours (From 8 to 6). All said and done its going to cost me $475 out of pocket, plus he is going to pick it up, and return it for free. He told me they had done the same thing recently and the total cost was about $1400 for parts a labor. I guess this is pretty fair since the tractor is almost 3 years out of warranty. However, it does piss me off that they didn't note this in the manual. If they had, then I would have greased it and I would be posting this right now.

I was thinking about it. If Deere wasn't going to step up to the plate, and take some responsibility for it. I would have taken the shaft to somewhere like Six States, and see if they could have made a replacement slip shaft with seal bearings.

It seems that the zerk would have been listed in the operators manual. I would ask the dealer to check the most up to date book to see.

I am glad to see that Deere helped out on this. There are not many if any manufactures that would do that on a unit three years out of warranty. After reading this, I know I will never own anything but a John Deere....

Interesting. I will be checking my tractor after work. I just bought it about 2 weeks ago.

Doesn't matter, Deere is paying for the shaft. I just have to pay for some labor. If I didn't already have 500 projects, I would probably do it myself. But I don't have the time, and I need the tractor up and running. Sun might come out in the next 2-8 months..:D

They do now, there is a Deere "Solution" #88233 for this. I came out late 2010, even if I got it then it would have been to late. Grease doesn't

Yep, May will be 3 years out of warranty. I think this is pretty fair, after this is all said and done I will post my dealers name too. They help push Deere, and need some credit.

I'm guessing your manual has this in it. Should be page 36, I think.

This is the first time I've heard of this access. I've been trying to figure out how to lube mine. Just how much do you have to take off to get at this access door?

Ok thanks. I will check it. If I see nothing in the manual I will make a note and post it in the barn.

Thanks again.
