Jaylegger: Same problem with my rotator, pulled it off, took it apart, many oz. of water came out, armature will not even spin, too much rust inside. One of the brushes also stuck and does not even contact the armature--more rust! Wish me luck, currently in process of cleaning and attempting to get motor functioning again. Your picture is the same as my actuator, how is the water getting in???
Hi, my unit must have been close to full of water as I was shocked at the amount that poured out. My armature rotation was a little sticky and though the brushes were very dirty they both function. On mine only one brush appeared to be spring loaded, the other is fixed in position. I doused everything with a spray contact cleaner and used a little steel wool on the contact areas which removed most of the grime and gunk. The armature spun far easier after the refreshment.
The gasket separating the two cases appears to be in good shape with no obvious signs of water ingress at that location so the only points are from the gear side of the case. It's either getting in around the edges of the backing plate or through the shaft exit point. I'll spread a little sealer around the plate tomorrow the eliminate that as a point of entry.
I'm going to head into Princess Auto tomorrow and pick up one of their window motors for $19 which appears to be direct match for the Massey unit and test it's RPM. That units model # 16631020 appears to be a very popular motor used in 1,000's of vehicles so hopefully it'll be a suitable spare just in case. One thing I didn't do prior to putting it back on the blower is count the number of teeth the gear is, I'm thinking it looked like 9 but if yours is still on the bench could you double check for me?
Here's a photo of the Princess Auto unit.
