Now tell us what your trailer is hauling that needs a 25k coupler:D
I might be able guess looking at your avatar....

I often marvel at the Harley guys who buy an enclosed trailer for "security" then plaster Harley Davidson stickers all over it telling the world there is high dollar stuff in there.
I've thought of getting big stickers for my trailer with something like "Stinky's Mobile Sewer Pump Repair"

Well That's just it the trailer only has a 15,000 GVW, and I will not even be close to that, but I will be hauling a Golf cart, and a new Dragster. Sold my door car and going to try something new. The trailer I just sold i bought used and the PO had his name and racing info on the rear door, So I had a buddy in the printing business make a new wrap for the rear door. It was a big checker flag, but I had been thinking of putting something along the lines of your thoughts , this new one is clean and will not have anything on it.

Instead of locking the coupler, lock the landing gear crank. If you can't let it down you can't hook it up. Short chain and a pad lock.

Dan

I was going to mention this also. I know of someone that cranks his gooseneck up high then locks it.

Yea, make it easier for the guys with the tall 4x4's, so they can get their fair share of the spoils, lol.

That is what I was thinking of, What brand of lock is that?

Its a master lock magnum. We call them hocky puck locks. I have seen other brands though. I built this for a guy here in vages. I call it "the vault" becuase evryone says it looks like a bank vault. This thing can be put on or taken of in about 10 seconds. I put one on ebay for sale. I now the price is step but it cost about $90 in materials and about 6 or 7 hours to make it. Thats still cheaper than a knew trailer.

How long does it take to remove with a tank of air and a cutting tool?

Seriously, I thought having a big, tough-looking luck was a great idea until I got a forged masterlock stuck on my trailer hitch, luckily it was holding the lever on top locked and it was actually on my truck when the key broke. I tried a bolt cutter and got no where fast so I brought it by a friend's shop. He cut it off in 3 seconds, maybe quicker.

So this taught me two things. First, the $20 masterlock was tough enough that a bolt cutter and a heck of a lot of sweat did not even dent it. Second, probably nothing I could buy would slow down the cutting edge on that air tool.

Yep, I have a 18 volt Dewalt 4 1/2 grinder that I put 1/8 or 1/16" cut off wheels on. It will zip though a 1/2" of steel in a few seconds like butter.

You are right, a lock will only slow them down. sometimes the lock only slows you down. I under stand that becuase im the guy they call to come romove the lock after the lock fails. I usally can get past most lock even safes pretty fast. You would be ther all day with an air tool. If you knew were to cut the vault with a good grinder and a cut off wheel you could do it in about 3 to 5 min. Then take it some where to have the lock removed and weld the vault back to gether. Most people with the kind of tools i have work for a living though (thats good). But a theif takes things because he does not want to work for it. So you lost them them at sweating. They also want a fast buck with less time there to get cought. so they will go to the next easy faster thing they come across. I think there may be another problme though. You said that you broke the key off. Always mantian your locks and try to replace them when the get old and dont work right.
