Hey guys what do you guys use in the front end for fluid other than JD fluid?
I wanted to try to get something cheaper at fleetfarm.

I had a seal go out in my front end. it's the on in the steering system out on the end of the axles there is one top one bottom its before it goes out to the hub for the wheel. .
Kind of surprised with only 200 hours this went out. I'm guessing it's from too much weight or temp changes from summer to winter.

Anyways i don't have my book with me anyone know what fluid it uses it would be great help.
Thanks.

If your looking for front axle fluid, it is 3.6 quarts of GL-5 rated 80w-90.

I don't think the JD stuff is that expensive to use something different, unless a dealer isn't very close to you.:)

I wonder why JD didn't put recommended fluids in the 2520 manuals.....my 3720 manual has a whole section on recommended fluids, and for the front axle specifies Low Viscosity HY-GARD (JDM J20D). What I found to be an inexpensive alternative is a JD20D compatible fluid at Rural King. It's distributed by an Arkansas outfit called Cross Lubricants, and is called "Xtreme Ultra-Performance Universal Tractor Fluid", comes in qt/gal/2gal/5gal containers. Think I paid ~$18 for a 2 gal jug. Don't have a clue however, if it's distributed in Fleet Farm territory. But when in doubt, it's a lot simpler to just buy from John Deere.

Yeah, that's weird too, that the 2000 series uses gear oil, while the 3000 series uses hydro fluid.:confused2:

Make sure your tractor uses gear oil and not HG. Deere modified the front ends for HG and you have to know which one your specific tractor uses.
My 2010 Deere 3320 uses HG, my friends 990 (4005) uses gear oil. You can't go by what someone with an older or newer 2 series uses, you have to find your specific oil.

Both manuals available for the 2520 on Deere's website state GL-5 SAE 80W-90
