2520 popping out of 4WD

Add me to the club...I have a 2012 2520 with a 200cx loader, loaded rear tires, and a ballast box with a good 550 to 600 of concrete in it.

I have 15 hrs on the machine...when I drive down a steep grade on my property, the 4 x 4 jumps out at times.

This is with the bucket basically empty. I have no issues with out the ballast box on, as I pushed snow all winter without an issue.

My guess is the added weight on the power train causes his to jump out. I think this is an issue on most of these machines, but most people don't have steep hills! Shame on deere for not recalling this.

I guess tomorrow I will make the call to the dealer. I hope the heck they fix this...this could be bad on damp grass going down hill.

It is a shame, John Deere should have a recall out on this problem... It is a huge safety concern especially if you are counting on the front drivetrain to help hold position... They will now have to break your new tractor in half to get to the springs and put the heavier springs in place... I guarantee you that if you call John Deere they will say "it is the first we heard of this problem" makes me sick, reminds me of Obama telling lies... Anyway I hope they get your tractor fixed right but you really should call John Deere so they can tell you its the first they heard of it... The only good thing is when someone gets killed because of a malfunction someone can look back at this forum and probably own a good portion of the company... They had to replace all the hydraulics in my tractor after the 4wd surgery because something was wrong with them afterward... All on a tractor with 133 hours on it... sad just sad....

You know,I was wondering why just the 2520,and not the 2720 having this problem. They are the same tractor.:confused3:

I think most if not all of these 2520 and 2720
Tractors have this problem.

My guess is most people don't realize it or just think
It's normal.

Mine doesn't jump out unless I have a load on (ballast box) and
If I'm on a hill.

This I will tell you JD will be getting a call.

So today I decided to do a little testing of this 'disengaugement' issue.

I removed the ballast box and took the machine out up and down hills...still had the loader on but empty.

Drove around for a good 20 minutes withone one problem. It appears the issue is load related, which, I guess makes sense? More weight on the tractor equals more stress on the front differential with the 4 x 4 engauged.

What's even stranger is I logged a good 15 hours on my 1/8" steep driveway this winter (paved) plowing snow withone one issue.

Now I'm thinking if I want to subject the new machine to open heart surgery?

Greg all I can figure is people are not reporting the problem, not realize what is happening... Maybe they don't use the tractor like I do on steep grades? If you are on flat land you will probably never have an issue. However if you sell your tractor to someone with a grade they probably will... I just wish I didn't have to have a brand new machine ripped apart... just not right and JD should be taking care of this and issuing longer warranties for those who have had problems...

Was backing down a slope today with a full load of wood in the FEL in 4wd and the tractor popped out of 4wd. 2520 tractor is out of warranty last week... should I be concerned?

I'm jumping on this thread as well....I have the same issue 2012 John Deere 2520 and it pops out of 4wd all the time, only 32 hours on it! Looks like I need to call the dealer as well. Big time safety issue. I keep my foot on the lever but should not have too..

I've never read of this problem on the 2320, just the driveshaft issue.
