I have just read this entire thread and I feel your pain! (The both of you). I can so imagine something like this happening in todays world, it is far too typical these days. I hope you get yours fixed also in the spring. Could you elaborate on your limestone treatment for your driveway? I googled "My driveway is clay" 2 weeks ago and ended up here! What a great Forum!

Welcome and Happy new year VP.

VP,
Welcome to TBN! After I did much needed re-grading and cutting some ditches along my driveway this past spring, we drove on it all summer got everything good and packed down. We did start to get some low spot from where we drive so I pulled dirt/gravel back in again and got it graded again the way I wanted. I had that 23 ton of 2A gravel delivered by tri-axle and dumped by my garage. I did not want them to try and spread it because I would have ended up with a mess... It was a lot of running back and forth bucket after bucket but I only wanted a thin layer over wear we drive. I didn't want excess gravel that I would be plowing off of my 1/4 mile long driveway. The other day the ground froze here and it was perfect, every rocky was frozen in just a little bit of dirt. If you have a fresh driveway I would start out with some big slag then move to limestone later on, just a cheaper way to get a good base down. I am going to try and get a load of pea gravel limestone for winter so if I get a bunch of ice I can spread some gravel out. I am pretty sure I can use a tri-axle load a year on my driveway.....;)

I have my driveway finally graded for ptich, I now need to add about a foot of good gravel. I will start by adding some lime first. I am curious to see how well it will work, after all, cement is clay and limestone.

Hey everyone, I know its been a while since I have been on and figured I would give an update now... I dos take my tractor in for service and they said they did find a service update for the spring on the 4wd. So I took the tractor in for service. I told them to take their time because I was having shoulder surgery and make sure they did a good job. I got the tractor back and the 4wd definitely seems to lock into place better. He said there is an upgraded spring that is doubled up now. Why this is not a recall is beyond me being that this is a huge safety hazard. So the 4wd as of now is fixed... And now for the bad news... It is my biggest fear to get any kind of new machinery worked on, I got the tractor back asked if there was any leaks etc. Of course they said no... I bring the tractor home and I have a hydraulic leak. Not a problem they said they would fix it... The biggest problem I have is now when I try to go really slow forward or backwards like hooking up my rear blade the tractor either hesitates or surges like jumpy. So it is in either direction and it gets worse as the tractor is heated up. Now I have to take it back to them for the leak and the lack of fine movement in the hydraulics. The tractor DID NOT do that before they took it in for service. They did send a mechanic to my house to change the hydraulic filter and check over tractor but had no luck with that... So I just have to get it back in to service again... lucky me...

Sorry to hear about this, that seems so typical these days. I hope you get it all straightened out. Let John Deere Corporate know about this, they seem to be part of the problem. Happy Holidays!

Well I got my tractor back again... Called and told them I either need a loaner tractor or mine back. We are getting buried by snow.... The tractor is still not right, two mechanics and the owner all compared my tractor to a new one and they all agree that it is not right... They gave it back to me until John Deere Engineering gets back with them. We have gotten a foot of snow at my place, 1/4 mile long up hill driveway can be tough without getting it plowed... So right now it is a waiting game...

I agree with this. I suspect one of the reasons for this is that things are getting more complex and harder to fix. That's how it is in our industrial control business.

Yeah there is definitely a problem with the hydraulics, I just hope they do right by me... The 4wd works good now though... When it is in High range and push forward on the pedal it will kick back hard and throw your foot back, then you can push it down and go... weird...
