2520 popping out of 4WD

Greg I never sent it over yet, I was waiting until they got my chains in for the rear wheels so they can install them

My bad,I forgot you said that.

If I would have thought about it,I could have suggested where I got my chains,184.00 out the door. They are only 4 link ,but they are ice chains and they are awesome. I just told him my tire size, and they fit like a glove. Kind of a bear to install (heavy),but man what a difference they made.

Yeah I'm not sure what my chains are going to look like but I wanted them on now for getting trees out of the woods. My property still has a bunch of wet spots that are quite muddy. I know I will need them for the winter, my driveway is no joke and without them I could go for a good long ride on ice!!! My buddy said he had some brand new semi truck chains he would give me if they didn't come in, I would have to cut them to fit. Do your chains fit real tight?

Do you guys have R4 tires? I have R4's and I bought chains from an online chain outfit that sold me a set specifically to fit my R4 skid steer tires. They weigh about 100 pounds each but they fit great and they go on much easier if you let a bunch of air out of the tires before installing them. Fill them back up afterward.

I went to the dealer yesterday to pick up my new chainsaw and showed him the forum where other people are having the same problems with the 2520 and 2720. He talked to the service manager and they are going to contact JD about the issue because it's several and not just mine..... I was telling him how I can watch the lever start bouncing and become disengaged, hopefully we hear some good news about this!!!

Well when you hear back from these guys please let me know because I am in a unique situation where there are no dealers here to work on my tractor. My E mail address is ecd_45@hotmail.com I will need something to send to Florida to my dealer for them to act on.

Had it pop out on pavement a few days ago, and that was the first time on paved surface but I was carying a heavy load of broken concrete, Which was also another first, because usualy I never carry a load while cutting grass, and thats where it's happened the most.

If you are operating on pavement, you shouldn't have the 4WD engaged. As I understand it, the gear ratios are designed such that the front wheels will turn slightly faster than the rear wheels. If you are operating on dry pavement with the 4WD engaged, at the very least you are causing excess tire wear, at the most you are putting high amounts of stress on the drivetrain. The 4WD was designed to be used on lose surfaces where there is a natural slippage between the tires.

It is the same for 4X4 trucks...A big no no on pavement.

Mine has never seen pavement other than maybe at the dealers lot..... Or if I turned around at the end of my driveway but that would have been in 2wd anyway....

OK let me spell it out a little better. I was going down hill with a load and had to cross a paved road for about 25 yards or so to get to my dump site. I only use 4WD on dirt or grass but didn't see the need to shift out for that short run. It should not be popping out at all is my point.
