2520 & PTO Chipper

Did he give a reason why it wouldn't work? I suspect the 3PH doesn't have enough lift capacity (680 lbs) for the chipper.
Your 2520 does, however

$4300 for that chipper does seem high (I would have guessed $3600), but chippers sure do hold their prices! I looked at a rusted out Goossen that I would have paid $700 tops. The guy wanted $1500 firm.

Roy, my dealer is asking $4,275. Seems like alot for an implement without a motor or hydraulics. The dealer said he ordered it for a gentleman whom ordered it for a 2305, because Bearcat told my dealer it would work. Well, my dealer said it does not work on a 2305 and because of that the gentleman walked from the deal. Now the dealer has been stuck with this unit since last fall.

How much have some of you other Bearcat owners paid?

Your dealer doesn't happen to be Rozencrantz, does it? $4,275 is the MSRP. I looked at that unit - it's been sitting out all winter. Flywheel & chipper knives were all rusted. A few branches thru it would probably clean it up, but maybe you can rangle for a discount.

The unit is Heavy with a capital H - it would be too much for a sub compact to lift.

I got mine for $3,875 at MB tractor, but I think I got some kind of deal. He originally quoted me $3,600 which was a steal compared to Rozencrantz, but turns out they had the wrong price in the system. He offered it to me "at cost" - I'm sure he still made a few bucks as they stock that unit (not special order) and I find it hard to believe his normal markup is only 10%.

I will say this - after fighting with my WW grinder all the time it was $4k well spent. If you want the shredder part - you won't find a better machine - I checked them all out. If you want to go chipper only, check out the Wallenstein BX42 - (MB stocks them too) a nice unit for ~$2,600.

As a bit of a sidetrack to the discussion -- how on God's green earth can they charge so much for the PTO driven chippers? Just the other day I visited my local DR shop (needed to get parts for my DR brush hog), and asked about pricing for the PTO driven chipper -- it was around $2,500 with the chip chute.

Just for comparison, the DR chipper equipped with a 13HP motor and the axle, wheel, other stuff was about the same amount of money! For that matter, it was about the same price as the (superbly built and extremely heavy-duty) DR brush mower with the 15HP Kawasaki engine!

Now the PTO-driven chipper was nicely made, but did not seem ESPECIALLY heavy-duty. About the same gauge metal as the other models. But again... no engine, engine controls, axle, wheels, etc. Is a simple PTO connection worth that much?

Just wondering...

Hey Hazmat,

Yes Rosenkrantz is my dealer. They have never claimed to be the cheapest.
The unit does seem very rugged.

Not to try and take over the thread or anything but can anyone suggest a decent chipper for a 2320 that isn't going to set me back a fortune?

I am sick of burning brush and that will all come to a screeching hault once someone sees me from the road. Turns out they would rather have you pay to send it to a landfill. Shhh don't tell anyone.

What are you looking to spend? My chipper/shredder was about $4k, but a chipper alone is about half the price so if you can bypass the shredder you can save a bundle. I live in New Jersey near a swamp, so some nice Italian gentlemen offered to subsidize my purchase, apparently they like tossing ketchup bottles in there for fun and forget to hose it off afterwards - I don't ask questions
