I thought the warranty made it so you never had to touch the tractor but to drive it??

In all fairness though equipment like this does require that the operators stay on top of it.

I agree, you have to stay on top of your machine and become familiar with it from back to front so that you can properly take care of it.

Sorry for not getting back here sooner, has been very trying here with foster kids

So far everything is doing good. They did replace the pins with bolts and lock nuts per the field rep. The rep said JD would look at the tractor if the deck falls out again then make a decision if it would be covered under warranty.

If you are unwilling to do simple pre use inspections and simple repairs, you should buy the extended warranty. Then you can complain how the service is poor.

You got me there. How often do you suggest that the pre inspections take place. I had mowed 2 1/3 times (then the deck fell out) since the tractor was recieved back for the last repair, then the deck fell out It take me about 45 minutes to mow. So if anybody has a big mowing job, they should have to stop to inspect it after 1 1/2 hr of using the tractor? If this the best of JD's relibality I do not see how they stay in business. The China crap is better than that.

I do look at the tractor and with the cotter pins they looked ok but I guess I should have replaced them every hour so I would not have problems, thats something that everyone on this board does with their equipment. Isn't it?

BTW it really is a small problem IMO. But I am sure it is not small to the owner.

I will sell you a extended warranty if all you want fixed is a $.25 clip;)

Simple, yes but while it is still under factory warranty. Now I am worried about something falling out and bending/ breaking major items (engine block where the arms attach, aluminum pto housing etc)

I learned the hard way the above problems happend to me (there is a post here if you want to read it) Mine was bought used and long out warranty. I used round clips and the regular clips I bent upward on the straight side to make it very hard for them to come out. I also put them in so grass cannot pull them out. When it is your dime it is easy to fix it better than the factory. I am not trying to be rude or mean it is just an easy fix.

Good luck with the foster kids, you are a Saint.

Thanks, I do not think my wife and I are saints, idiots sometimes. It is hard to be called everyname in the book by a 13 year old because we do not provide her with beer and cigs. This is when I think we are idiots of taking that abuse :(

If it is an easy fix why is the dealer having problems fixing it? I was told this tractor is the only one having a problem. Something is wrong with the deck or lifting hardware. I am worried with replacing the pins with bolts (they should not fail) that the problem will move to other parts of the tractor. It might be a while before it will show up but it will show up somewhere. It will be my money fixing it then

Mine was on a 4310 with a 72" mmm. I had the cotter pin on the hydraulic cylinder fall out. When is the last time a cotter pin with both ears bent fell out? Vibration wore the pin in two. That should never happen. I should have cought that when I first put the deck on in the spring, My fault.

Your problem is those "hair pin" clips. If they replace hair pin clips with the round "key chain" clips or bolts and nuts you should never have one fall out. The round ones suck to get off under the tractor so most people use the hair pin ones. Which lead to your problem. The reason they use them is ease of deck removal. If Deere used the round ones exclusively people would complain deck removal was too hard. Deere cannot win so they used what holds MOST of the time and fix the others. If Deere could predict parts failure there would never be any down time. And if I had x-ray vision........

Are you talking about the round/circle slips like in the picture?
Yes I did replace all of the hair pin clips with the round clips, yes they have failed also. It would be nice if JD could get the tractor fixed because this is the only problem that I am having. The frontend loader works great and my wife and I really do not want to get rid of it but with the deck issues........we have been thinking about removing the deck completely and getting a machine just to mow the yard. Is anybody interested in a "good" JD 62D deck :D:D

What happened to the spring loaded "J" pins like I have on my 62D deck that connect the lift arms you show in your picture to the deck? That's what I have on mine in that location and they have never come unattached. I can't imagine what you run your mower through that would cause the clip you have pictures to come loose. I have always had problems with those spiral circle clips for the mower lift hardware so I use nothing but cotter pins to hold my deck hardware on the underside of the tractor and never had a problem with any coming loose. I've run my 4100 tractor that way for 10 years and never had one come loose. Use the heaviest cotter pin that will fit through the holes to avoid wearing one out. Every time I mow it takes me 2 hours. When I got my 2520 I switched all the circle clips to cotter pins. Been running that for 2 years, no problems.

The dealer removed the spring J pins because they kept working out. They have changed from cotter pins to circle clips back to cotter pins and now I have a mix of:

Upper clevis: bolts with locknuts
Lower clevis: pin with cotter pins
Mower deck quick release: pin with circle clips

If my yard is too rough for this setup the only thing that it might be able to mow is a football field. It takes us about 1 hr max to mow the lawn. We have a Ford LGT 145 that was made in 1974 that this tractor replaced. The Ford mower has mowed the same yard since 1980. When we built a new house I was using the snow blade on the mower to move some dirt around and I twisted the steering shaft off. That is the only problem that I have had with the Ford mower.

How about put a bolt thru it with double lock nuts. Don't tighten them up all the way and crush it., Just use the double locking nuts to keep it from falling apart. That should fix it.
