Regarding traction... mine hasn't seen snow yet.

Shawk,

That is the good news! :) We're still playing golf! 3 over yesterday, and today we may get to slip out for a quick round. The ten-day has it in the 50s!

You dog.... I don't need you telling me that stuff... you're rubbing it in :D :D

Congrats on the great round! Tough time of year to post a good number... Mid 40's here today but not near enough for me to sneak out. Our ground is rock hard from the cold that's rolled through. It's been teens to twenties for most of the week. Get out now... because these temps roll past us and on over to you :D .

Play well today JDF... and have fun...

Well... how did you play? We have mid 40's early in the week and mid 50's at the end. Looks like I'll sneak out again after all :)

From the responses - NOT - posted, it looks like I am the only one with practical field experience in using the 2520 in a bizzard and heavy snow conditions. Here's my feedback: R4 LOADED tires = Great traction in snow, BUT - I found that scraped snow or any smooth snow that was just a little bit icy leads to some wheel spin, especially on a good driveway hill - which I have. Not much of a problem when using the s'blower, but loss of traction does cause me to have to lift the back blade, particularly when moving UPHILL
whilst plowing.
I called my JD dealer to ask about chains for my 2520 R4's (rear only). He laughed and said, "You're just one of several guys I've heard from this morning about that." He was referring to those owners who live on the Northern West Michigan lakeshore who were trying to deal with a one day 17" snowfall with subsequent 6" and 8" drops on following days.
Realize that this was unusual snowfall, even for our area, and that some slippage problems occurred only AFTER the major portion of the snow depth had been blown / cleared. I will likely get a set of chains - just in case. Also realize that I arrived in South Florida - for the duration - yesterday and probably will not be concerning myself a whole lot with the snow removal issue in Michigan for some time to come!

I bought a set of chains for my 2320 just in case my uphill was going to be a problem. I haven't put them on yet. I was thinking that the loaded BB might get me through it.
I was wondering if you flipped it into 4WD or locked the rear differential at all when you were blowing? 17" is deeper that I usually blow but in isn't impossible to get here at all.

We haven't had over an inch so far this year. All my friends are thanking for buying a blower to insure no snow fall this year!

No snow here in MN either - our latest date to be without a 1/2" of snow on record (since 1890's).

Kinda hoping for a white Christmas... :)

I plan to use my 2305 with R3's and no chains. I don't have any hills to deal with and I can throw on the rear ballast if need be.

Scott,
I just leave the ballast on. I figure it can't hurt.

I would too, but it makes the overall unit a bit too long for where I keep the tractor in the garage for the winter. With the weight of the 47SB on the front, the extra weight on the back can't hurt.

In reply to the query on using 4-wheel drive and locking the differential, the answer is yes and sometimes. I always use 4-wheel drive when working in snow, mud, sand, or dirt. Ocassionally, I'll have to kick in the differential lock. I note that the 2520 is much, MUCH better than my 2210 in maintaining traction when working in snow, using the loader, or doing bladework. The big difference in clearance - larger tires and higher frame - is HUGE in allowing me to wade into snowdrifts that would have stuck my 2210. I HATE to have to call for help to pull my JD out!!! Hasn't happened once with the 2520.

Jim,

You're right; the only time I've been able to get my 2210 stuck was when I caught the underside of the front hitch on a curb. Ground clearance is not the 2210's best suit! :)
