JD2555 and a few Allis Chalmers and now one Kubota
I am just wondering what the differnce is between the two engines. Appear to be same in everything I can see on Tractordata.
How to tell the difference between the two?
Anyone have any idea on how to tell if an engine has been swapped or has it just been turned up to get additional power? That is assuming that the claimed dyno hp is actually true.
I will be looking for a dyno to see what it actually puts out. Anyone know where a good place to look is at, and what are the costs?

Appears you didn't read tractor data very well

I see that they are both the same cubic inches, I see that they are the same bore and stroke, I see that the more powerful one is rated at a lower rpm (77 at 2500 versus 88 at 2300). What I don't see is how they attain the horsepower difference. I know they are different, just not how they are.
Realistically what I am trying to figure out is what are the differences in these two motors. A different pump or turning up a pump could make the difference. A larger turbo might make the difference, but I have doubts due to the lower rpm rating.
I am going to go pick up another 2555 tomorrow that the shop says they installed a 2755 engine, so the horsepower should be considerably more. (10%). I am wondering how to tell if this is true or if I am being fed a line to get me to purchase the higher horsepower tractor.
I pull a 15 batwing in some pretty thick grass with my current 2555 and am hoping that the additional horsepower will make a little bit of a difference in how the mower cuts. (I realize that just sharpening the blades might make as much difference.)

Read it line by line and you’ll see turbocharged

My other 2555 with a 2555 engine is also turbocharged. They were available both in turbo and non turbo in the 2555. The turbo and the non turbo 2555 were rated the same horsepower, just consumed fuel differently.
If I am reading this correctly, you could put a 2755 engine right into your 2355 without any issues. How to tell if someone did that is what I am trying to figure out.

After researching I do remember coming across that the 2555 had both options. Sorry about that. I guess if the tractor isn't painted the fading should be different between the tractor and engine but has to know for sure that the engine came from a 2755 is beyond me. If your friendly with your local JD service manager he might be able to tell you where the engine came from by running the serial number.

If like engines used in larger farm tractors they were tuned differently to get different power output from same displacement. Not exactly sure what was changed but suspect fuel and possibly boost pressure of turbo.

Never thought much about having a tractor dyno'd but it would answer the question one way or the other!
Although I now have two of these tractors, I doubt I will be able to tell from the seat if 10 more horsepower is present in the engine. Tire sizes, 4wd versus 2wd and a loader on the 4wd makes the difference too hard to tell from the seat.

My guess is different horsepower on turbocharged engines is accomplishing by installing different injectors & inj pumps. One could probably tweak the inj pump sufficiently to attain 10 more HP on the 2555 engine
