$20 for a service call to change a tractor tire?
He does know this is 2024 not 1924?
A spray can of starter fluid isn't expensive and just takes a little, probably 30 cents worth and a match.

Great looking John Deere 455 Fuddy. I had one for years. Awesome little diesel tractor.

Until you screw up and it blows up in your face... Not something I want to do. Yes, 20 bucks. I have an account with them and they handle all my tire needs including the vehicles at their shop and they always give me the best price on all tires. Just mounted 4 new Trelleborg Radials on my one tractor. That was a bit more than 5200 bucks.

Not something I'd ever consider or at least without a restraining cage. Lots of people have been killed or seriously injured by bad mounting practices.

Dang, I just paid $200 for a tire man to come out and dismount my 11.2-24's and mount the new 300/80R24's. I'll be having him out again shortly to break down and swap two pairs of 18.4-30's and mount my new 480\80R30's sure will be more then $20, must be terrible paying normal prices whatever will I do.

I didn’t ask what it cost to repair (patch nail hole) on the inside dual on the combine in the field this fall but bet it was over $200 to remove dual dismount main tire patch remount and then install dual.

Some of the forum members get special treatment. It might be because of the high standards they hold. I'm not sure.

The second one was for whatever reason much harder to do. It took five tries, finally lots of fluid with a locking air hose chuck. The wife heard the explosion in the house...but it worked.
I have two more to do for a Cub Zero mower. I'll use a Bic lighter on a four foot stick...
How long does it take for eyebrows to grow back?

Sometimes it takes multiple "blasts" to warm up the tire casings so they will flex enough.

OK ! So I had an opportunity to mount 2 brand new R-1 type 24x12-12 tires today.
Yeah, ATV and wide golf cart tires are difficult. I never tried a bead blaster, but I hear good things about them. These kind of tires are often strapped together and shipped where the carcass is distorted and Very Difficult to seat. Letting them get warm in the sun helps a bit.

I successfully used the starter fluid method on the 24x12x12 6-ply tires I got for my Toro Workman project. I tried that method a few times over the years, but I guess I was not doing it right. I tried all other methods before resorting to fire. I don't do it enough to justify a bead blaster.

I have discovered that it is way easier with starter fluid vs. any other fuel, and you have to use just enough. Too little or too much, no good. Also, the valve stem has to be out. If you leave it in, the inflated tire cools so fast that the tire collapses if it can not draw in air thru the stem.

It is not as violent or loud as the the final bead seating with air pressure. For that I keep the valve out and firmly affix my compressor hose to the stem. Then turn on the air at the compressor, well away from the tire. I often need at least 75psi.

Final seating is louder than a shotgun blast for difficult-to-seat tires.

BTW, I find larger tires, including tractor tires to be much easier to break and seat beads, plus remove and install.
