I am seriously looking at the 2710 and 2910's I am looking at running a 5 or 6 foot brush hog type of rear mower on 10 acres, mostly grass. Not much if any sage brush. Also have been sold on the FEL. Will add a box scraper and 6 foot or so blade for road work and snow removal in the future. Am looking for comments on your 2710 or 2910. What size mower you have. Is it to big, to small, just right ?? Happy with what you have for size, to big, not big enough ?? Looking to buy next spring. $ 6000.00 cash in the fund now. Maybe pay cash in the spring.

I looked at a lot of different makes, Deere, New Holland, etc. I settled on Kubota and looked at B2410 through L3010. I decided on the B27/2910 and couldn't see the $1000.00 difference in the B2910 over the cost of the B2710. My dealer would sell me anything I wanted, but he couldn't see the $1000.00 difference. True, a couple of more horses would be nice, but that and the extra stuff didn't make much difference to me, so B2710 is my tractor. I have a 60" box blade and that is all I'd care to have on the back. My landscape rake is 7 foot and it is no problem. I have a 60" rear blade and have never put it on, so I don't know if your desire for a 6 foot rear blade is too much for the tractor. I know that I lose traction at times with the 5 foot box.

You will love your 27/2910 if you get one.

Personal opinion; a 6' brush hog would sure be pushing the limits. I used a 5' light duty brush hog, 5' rear finish mower, and 5' box blade and think they were the right size for the B2710.

I love my 2710 and think it is a perfect fit for the jobs I do. I use a 5' finish mower and a 6' rear blade for snow removal. I like the 6' blade so when I angle it, it still covers the width of my tires. I too did not think the extra money for the 2910 was worth it for me.

I have a 2910 and really like it. The suspension seat is better than the 2710, and the extendable 3-pt links are nice, as is the ratchet tilt mechanism on the 3-pt. Other differences include the placement of the cruise control (I like the 2710 better on this) and the slightly increased hp of the 2910 (may not be significant).

I paid $800 more for the 2910 and am not sure I would do it again. The 2710 is a great machine, and $1000 will buy you a nice tiller or rotary cutter.

Welcome to TBN /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
I have a 2910. I believe that the added 10 cubic inch increase and 2 HP PTO output increase is the best benefit of the 2910 package.
When checking out the output of the entire B series tractor line you will notice that each has about 2 PTO horsepower increase as you go from 7500 to 2910.
When doing work with a PTO operated attachment such as a Rotary Cutter. The added horsepower will be noticed.

I have owned tractors for many years. The most stressful thing that I have found is attaching 3 PH attachments. The telescoping lower links sure helps to make this task easier.

Tilt steering wheel is a nice feature. But I find that when I adjust it down for a more comfortable position. It is difficult to get on and off tractor.

Most operators that need a wider seat find that the cruise control arm is in the way and may get moved into position that will not allow reverse to work on Hydro pedal. I find that I use it a lot when using my Rotary Cutter and Roto-Tiller.

The Seat is comfortable and I can adjust it to suit myself.

Would I spend the $1000 difference for the 2910 again? Yes, more power is always better. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Both are great machines. I went with the B2910. My main reasons at the time of purchase were:

1.) The $800 difference, although not trivial, meant that with my package (tractor, loader, backhoe, posthole digger) the difference was between $21,200 and $22,000 (or somewhere around there). When you're talking that kind of money, I didn't see an $800 difference as too significant over the life of the tractor.

2.) I am sometimes plagued with recurring lower back pain and the 3 pt. connections on the back of the B2910 looked like it could save a lot of grunt work. This has proven to be the case.

Since I've bought the tractor, I really appreciate the spring suspension seat. During one of my "back attacks", the suspension seat absorbed much of the bouncing around and allowed me to work without aggravating my back. I'm not sure if I could have said the same with the seats on the other tractors. (I know that the seat on my smaller lawn tractor was punishing and I needed some serious recovery time after cutting the lawn on that!)

As far as the cruise control lever, I only have 2/3 acre, so I don't really need it, but I have used it for snow removal using the loader to aid in brake steering. For this application, I like the lever where it is on the B2910.

As far as the extra hp, it might be an issue, I can't say. So far, I've always ran out of traction before I ran out of power, but I don't do any brush-hogging. I would guess that more power at the pto is always better.

I'm sure you'll be happy with either machine. I guess it all depends what else in your life needs the $800-$1000 difference.

Good Luck,

~Rick

Welcome aboard. You have come to the right place. I was where you are a year or so past. The folks on this site are great. I won't use up more space saying the same thing that Bird, ronjhall, and Rick Jay have said, except to add dito to their observations and opinions. I have not reached 50 hrs yet and have been using my 5' Howse at 1500-1700 rpm. At times in heavy brush that is all 2910 can handle at that rpm. until I slow down a little.

God bless US All!

I just went with the 2910. I had decided on the 2410, but felt going up in size was cost effective.

When you get the 2910 over the 2710, along with the horsepower increase, you also get the larger/stronger LA402 loader, 60" loader bucket if you want it, the larger BL4690A backhoe if you want it, Wider rear tires, maybe something else that I forgot.

So you do get more than just a few cubic inches of engine size for you added dollars.

Actually the 2710 and 2910 both use the same FEL and backhoe. The differences are in the seat, the 3 pt extendable links, ratchet tilt and placement of cruise control and of course, horsepower. They are physically the same size and I believe have the same tire size.
