That's crazy! What do you mean by that? Like old coal mine fires burn and travel underground?
I don't want to put words in Piloon's mouth, but when I was younger I did a lot of camping in Ontario and Quebec. We were always told that camp fires had to be doused thoroughly with water to put them out because pine tree roots could catch fire and burn underground for great distances. I don't know if it was an old wive's tale. Having tried to burn out some stumps I'm inclined to believe it was.
