My piece has always eased into motion silky smooth from a dead stop. Noticed today that if there was no resistance it wants to surge slightly when it starts motion. Any resistance and the surge is undetectable. Not a big problem but a different behavior. All other functions seem normal. Anyone got thoughts on this?

I've got about 100 hrs on the tranny oil so I figured to change it and see if that helps. What tranny oil are you guys running?

Thanks

Haven't noticed what you're experiencing. I'm at about 340hrs and a little over 300hrs on Sams Club hydro fluid. Going to change to PermaTran fluid from the local dealer shortly.

I had thought about saying something about using Permatran in that model of Mahindra before because the tranny and rear axle is the basically the same as the larger size MF compact even though the pumps are different. I didn't because I thought some might take it some way other than the way it was meant.

PermaTran is a good thought. Used lots back in the MF days. Probably more similar (light and clear) to what came in it than what I've got in the tranny now. Seems to look a tad heavier and has a greenish tint.

Thanks

I'll take any suggestion you have, anytime!
You weighed in on a recent thread I started about hydro fluid and I'm taking your advice and going with permatran. The local Massey dealer is new to Mahindra and has been out of the 5gal pails, should be in soon. I've had good results with the cheap fluid but, why was I going the cheap route on this? No more, going with the good stuff.

I really think that you will be happy with it. Before the synthetics showed up on the market, I thought that Permatran was the best fluid on the market. I don't know how it compares to the synthetics now that we have them.

After buying 10 gal. of PermaTran and a filter, I found the cause of the surge. 1/2" wrench and 2 minutes to fix, good as new. Oh well, I wanted to change to PermaTran anyway....

Look up in the tranny cavity where the filter is, see the actuator on the starboard side of the tranny near the filter base and the rod that connects to it. Follow the rod to the opposite end where it engages the dual pedal rocker cam. The nut that secures the rod end eye bolt to pedal mechanism was loose, about 3 rounds. Apparently if there is no resistance to movement, when the tranny gets a taste of flow, it grabs all it can (i.e.takes all the lost motion out of the linkage in the gotta go direction).

Not often you can solve a tranny issue with a 1/2" wrench and a beer. Consider myself lucky.

Thanks for the follow-up, I'll be checking mine.
