I will try the suggestions this afternoon. Thanks for everyone's responses. I will keep you posted.

Here's what I have checked:
1. Disconnected the battery. Cleaned all connections. Reconnected the battery.
2. Checked the voltage at the solenoid. All good.
3. Checked the safety switch under the seat.
4. Checked the parking brake - removed the dash so I could see the switch.
5. Checked th fuses for the PTO/Stop and Glow.

Even solicited assistance from my neighbor :). The tractor still will not start. Any other ideas on what I should check? Thanks!

is the shuttle shift in neutral?
is the clutch safety switch bad?
and not to sound condescending, but are you sure the PTO off? (voice of experience)
if yes, that safety switch could be bad as well.

Yes, the shift is in neutral.
Checked the clutch switch (easy to check with the dash torn off)
The PTO is off.

the only other thing I can think of is follow the wiring harness from the alternator out - there will likely be a fusible link that's blown. (had similar problem with my Century 2535 when a field rat took the 6" section of wire with fusible link for his nest one night)

How long was that before he came and took the whole darn thing? ;)

Good ideas here so far though. Have you double checked the neutral safety switch? I am not sure how that one is setup, but I have seen the neutral and PTO safety switches make people wanna pull their hair out. You seem to be calm, cool and collected so far. I would have thrown so many hammers by now if it were me...

All good suggestions so far. I assume when you say nothing happens when you turn the key you mean it does not crank over. Hook a test light or meter to the starter solenoid to see if the small wire is getting power when you turn the key. If no power to this wire then it may be a blown fuse, fusible link, or a safety switch in series holding it out. If you are getting power and no crank it could be the starter or solenoid. With the key in the on position have you tried jumping the starter to make it crank.

The original poster has said the voltage drops when he tries to start, so that means that the solenoid or starter is drawing current. Check the starter and see if it is warm after trying to start.. Tap the starter with a hammer. The pinion gear may be stuck. Remove the starter and test with battery cables. Do you have a separate solenoid. Take the cable off the starter and and try to start, now see if the voltage is dropping on the starter side of the solenoid..

I agree with George. If you have a test light it will definitely help. Checking the small power wire at the starter when you turn the key to the crank position will tell you a lot about where the problem could be.

When you say that you turn the key on the voltage drops... what exactly do you mean. When I first read it to me I was thinking you lose all power which is why I initially said that it sounded like a connection problem. If that is the case then I still think it is a bad connection. Check the ground at the other end of the battery. It should be bolted to the frame, engine block, etc.

He never did as I suggested, and that was to put jumper cables on the starter and see if the starter will turn.
