ok i am just a regular working guy so really dont understand that much about economics, but i do understand that they jump the gas and diesel prices .10 cents to .15 cents at a time sometimes here in missouri, but for some reason they never lower at that same rate. huh, wonder why? give me a freakin break, supply and demand, my .........! its all about the spreculators on wall street and the oil guys. i agree that if we drive less and there is less demand for their oil, it should go down, but how many times to we read reports about full oil tankers sitting somewhere, because we have so much oil on hand, they have no where to go with it. i dont believe anyone can lead us out of this, polititians or the public. For example, here in missouri, our local politicians passed a law where smoking is banned in all government buildings in our state capitol, EXCEPT, where the same guys that made this law, have their offices. i dont even smoke, but i find this to be a perfect example, of our government, both local and national, gets what they can for themselves and screw the folks that vote em in. i know someone will say, vote em out, but doesnt seem to matter, after each new election, we get a whole new batch of guys who are the same corrupt way. i cant say as i blame em, it must be tough to throw all your morals and ethics out the window, when the big corporations, come knocking on your door, with the attractive under the table compensation and perks. how else can you explain the screwjob the american people are getting? i sure wish i was one of those guys, that could just put my head in the sand and believe all this crap the media and government shoves down our throat. i think that is the part that makes me so mad, that so many people, our so naive, as to not realize that this whole economic spiral, started with the huge rise in oil prices, and our goverment did nothing then, and is doing nothing now. You would think think that if the average joe can see it, why cant they? Think about it, remember when this whole thing started, you would hear em talk about the gas prices almost every night on the news, now that the prices are soaring again, and ruining any hope we have of economic recovery, do you hear the media or our goverment talking about any, i mean any, solutions to fix the problem? **** no, they are lining their own pockets, every chance they get, and there is not a **** thing we can do about it. Like i said, in my previous post, basically take or leave it, is pretty much how it is, like it or not!!

Something I havent heard mentioned in this thread is that if the fuel prices are to low then the "Green Movement" grinds to a halt. Only if the fuel prices are high will this move forward.

ok, help me out here. i really dont understand how some of you guys can say, aw, its not that bad, gas has just adjusted for inflation, well didnt rising gas prices cause the inflated cost of everything else? and for inflation to come at a normal rate, as you are implying, doesnt it usually come at a gradual rate, not at the rate that gas prices rose when this all started? and like i said, if it was normal inflation and a normal economic marked, why dont the prices fall at the same rate, when oil prices come down? i really would like to hear a believable explanation for this.

I pay $ 1.28 for diesel in that big red truck you see for my avatar ( Spelling of that ??? ) . Of course my base pay per mile has rose by something around $ 0.38 or $ 0.39 per mile , Basically for every $ 0.06 that fuel rises above $ 1.28 , I get $ 0.01 more per mile .

Everything is based upon 6 mpg , which is kind of average . You do better than 6 mpg you make more , you do less than 6 mpg you don't do so good . Some people do not realize than when the price of fuel goes up , everything else does to . Why ? Virtually everything in this country gets moved by truck , and the trucking companies or O/O's are not going to eat the price swing on fuel . Even companies like Wal-mart feel the pinch .

Years ago I worked at a factory in town , 35 mile round trip x 5 trips per week = 175 miles per week , ( 210 every other week as I worked 5 days , 2 off , 6 days , 1 off , etc... ) . 770 miles per month on a 1984 F250 4x4 with 460 that got a whopping 10 mpg. Did not matter if I had 2000 pounds of garbage in the back or empty , 10 mpg. . Now days , I would be walking instead of driving that full time .

I still have that ford , its my beat up mega hauler . For runs to Home Depot or Metal Yard , I take our 2006 Dodge 3/4 ton .

My only regret now is that I should of filled my diesel tank here for the tractor BEFORE the end of last year with dyed fuel . We have not called yet to see if its went up , BUT you know how that goes , " Day Late , Dollar Short " syndrome comes to mind .:ashamed:

fred, you are totally right, and i agree that the gas and diesel prices are driving everything higher, because its cost everyone more to do business. What i dont understand is, if our government really wants our economy to recover, why do they not do something to control, the out of control cost of fuel? I gotta believe, they dont want a recovery, or they would do something to put a stop to this. Geez, how much money do these oil companies need? i guess as long as they keep sending out dividend checks to the right people, not gonna be too much complaining on that end. i really do believe, our country has gotten to be a everyman for himself deal. PATHETIC!!!

From what i understand...a big ,big part of this is QE2....or, the FED pumping in 600 billion into the stock market, in turn devalueing our dollar....they got that 600 billion by just printing it.

If you remember, the FED was a big part of the crash. I feel they are the ones in control and are orchestrating the ruin of the dollar....

World's Largest Oil and Gas Companies

This seems to show that about 10 oil companies (some run by countries) control most of the world's oil.

Now the two extremes were mentioned as the solution in the last page of posts - the first was that government was the complete problem and if these companies were left alone with no regulation then our fuel would be cheap?????(I know they would do price fixing and would never take advantage of the little guy.)

The other is that the government should control pricing - this would result in taxes covering the difference and low cost of fuel encouraging waste (ex:why insulate my house if heating oil costs 50 cents a gallon - an extreme but it does show what happens when something is artificially cheap) (by the way - this is what we are now doing in part)

Note also that many places where the fuel cost at the pump is significantly higher than here, are doing as well as us.

Even though the dollar is basically at par, I'm presently paying $ 1.16.9 cents per litre x 3.8 litres per US gallon and 4.54 litres for our gallon. Costs me $ 90.00 to fill up my 4 cylinder toyota truck, Ouch.

OK, I'll play, what is "normal inflation" and what drives or should drive it?
