3/4 ton vs. 1 ton

4000#? Our 1997 1/2 ton Dodge is almost 6000# unloaded. Most "full size" cars (like my 1997 Volvo V90) are 4000#.
IIRC, most 3/4 ton trucks are 7000# to 8000# unloaded.

My dually tips the scales at about 8,200 w/ me, fuel and my "carry around stuff".

I did say "at least" 4000 lbs. That's the absolute minimum I could imagine a 3/4 ton weighing. My '90 f250 single cab long bed, six cylinder 5 speed is about 4500 unloaded. GVWR is 8800. I think 8400-9000 is about standard gross weight rating for a 3/4, so depending on configuration, you could have a legal payload somewhere between 1000lbs(diesel, crew cab, long bed, 4wd auto, winch, 5th wheel hitch in the bed etc) and 4500 lbs (truck like mine).

The GVWR on my last 3/4 ton was 10,000#. It was a 2004 F250. Weighed 7,500# with me a 2/3 tank of fuel.

Impressive. I didn't realize they went that high. Still, point is: payload for a 3/4 ton is gonna be between 1000 and 5000. 7500 lbs in the bed is either way way overloaded, or total BS.

CompleteLawnCare - my suggestion to you... leave that truck alone, and get some rest. Your offer should be significantly lower 6 weeks after first considering.

my wife and I spent the better part of 3-4 months just looking for a car that she would be physically comfortable in and having room enough for her walker etc... the ONLY comparison that I am making is that the process of shopping / buying a vehicle is draining and emotionally exhausting. We found a used vehicle in excellent condition, that was 1/2 the price of the newest models (no wiggle room ie not even 5%). we're glad the hunt is done. :)

I know nothing about large pickups towing those loads, but I know what kind of deal I would accept.

Good luck in whatever your decision.

Thanks. I am not stressing over this deal. The truck is still there and if I ever get some time to go test drive it, my offer will be significantly lower. I like the truck I have, and it serves my needs pretty well. But, if I can upgrade at a fair price, I'll consider it.

I just checked the dealer's web site and it's still there.

I talked to my brother yesterday and he drives a truck just like this one as his work truck. He has been a John Deere mechanic for about 30 years.

He said 'don't get it, it won't have any power'. He also said they added a tuner to 4 of these trucks they have at his work, and it helped.

I just have not had time to get over there for a test drive. Been really busy at work.

Sorry, for keeping everyone in suspense......

Unless you pull that GN everyday, keep what you have.
