3 acres ??? Interesting. What were the larger tractors used for ? I wouldn't think You would need a large tractor 3110D, etc, to farm just 3 acres

He said 3 acres was average, there is probly some .5 acre farms that use the walk behind tillers like he mentioned before and there is probly some 20 acre farms too as well as some 100 acre family farms.

The same as here. Subsistance farmers in the US probly farmed anywhere from 20-60 acres is just my guess? But there were 12 acre farms and there were 1000 acre farms in the same time period.

Of my familys 130 acre tract not all was farmed, some was too steep, gullies and or creeks. My guess is that maybe 110 acres maybe less maybe more was farmed up till the turn of last century, IE 1900.

Yeah me too I always was wondering what the bigger Yanmars did and who owned them etc.

I seem to remember Tractor Ernie mentioning most were owned by several family's or at least used by several family's.

I am still not aware of what kind of co-op that took or the work they did and how they took care of maintenance etc. They may get along and care about their stuff better than some of us do? (present company excluded )

Here in the US you would be lucky to get back a running tractor half the time if you loaned it out especially in muddy harsh conditions like Japan apparently has.

After hearing his description of things it's an eye opener. I think I read inthe past that "Zen-Noh" was a co-op is that correct?

Yes, it is.
ZEN means ALL, and NOH means AGRICULTURE.
So, ZEN-NOH is a short form of "All Japan Agricultural Cooperatives Association".
They forced displaying their name as a brand, when buying products in large quantities from the manufacturers of agricultural machine. My YM1300 is ZEN-NOH brand too, it is perfectly same to Yanmar brand's. The difference is only decals on the hood.
As a very few case, there is some special model which designed by their local demands.

And for your information,in Japan, the joint use of an agricultural machine was rare.
This is for agricultural work to concentrate within a very short period. Especially for weekend farmers.
Relatively big farmer of the big city suburbs parted with their machines.*
Since farmland changes to a residential section and the big machine became*unnecessary.
It is the same also in the United States, isn't it?

Yes, you are correct that in many areas of the United States the farmland is slowly being taken over by residential developments. This happened to my grandparents' farm in southwest Ohio about 15 years ago. My father inherited his father's John Deere 4020, which was great for the two properties he farmed. Now my grandfather's farm is carved into 1/4 and 1/2 acre lots with houses, and my father rents out his land (the second property) to a local farmer with a big (1000's acres) operation. So my father has this huge 4020 that he just uses once in a while to bushhog.
