John,
I am a fan of a ballast box attached to my quick hitch. I have the JD version with 300# of old weightlifting weights and all the gravel that will fit, less the space occupied by two lengths of 4" PVC that I placed vertically in the after two corners. I use the PVC cylinders to safely and securely carry a chainsaw, a shovel, a prybar and whatever else I may need for the job at hand. I have additionally welded a bracket on the bottom of the box with a 3/4" hole in it that will fit a trailer hitch ball or a lynch pin in order to pull a stand alone chipper, a log splitter, a roller or any other pull along garden implement. I find the flexibility very useful.
