O.K. I learn something new every day, but I didn't know my 3 point hitch had stops on it until I read a recent thread about them. I thought I'd start a new thread on it. When I hit the stop on the down side of the 3 point it seems to work perfect, it goes down really slow. On the way up, it doesn't, and raises quickly. Is this correct? Do you just adjust the up motion with the valve below the seat, or does the stop need adjusted?

On my tractors the knob only adjusts how quickly the 3-point drops.

The knob is for lowering speed and doesn't affect the raise speed (at least on every tractor I've operated with that set up). Tightening the knob all the way will completely stop the 3pt from lowering, but don't over tighten. I've never encountered a raise speed adjustment other than some control you will have by varying the throttle. Setting the lowering speed is useful for different implements such as; you want to lower your shredder, finish mower or tiller slower than you might lower your box blade.

Another case for control of your lowering speed is where you park your tractor. Mine is stored in my shop which has a concrete floor, so I would hate to chip up the floor by dropping my 3 point too fast.

The stops are adjustable. You probably need to move the upper stop (up motion) a little closer to neutral. On mine, if the stop is too close to neutral, the 3PH won't move; too far towards up and it acts the same as no stop at all (just goes up quick). It's a "not too hot, not too cold, just right" kind of thing.

It would be helpful to know which model tractor you are dealing with, and whether, or not it has position control. On my B2620 with 1/4 inching, adjusting the upper stop on the fender downwards to make the 1/4 inching work properly also slowed the rate that the 3 point hitch raises. Before that adjustment raising the hitch with something heavy attached would make the tractor bounce a bit because it came up so quickly, now it is more moderate, and I like it much better.

Good point Chuck. I assumed he had the 1/4" version since he referenced the previous threads on this issue, but it's not entirely clear.

The "down" motion is also important because the weight of the implement could vary a lot. Something that falls gentle and weighs 400 lbs will take one set-up. something that weighs 1200 lbs will take a different set-up.

I don't know what the stop looks like on the BX but on my B it is these things that adjust the up or down speed of the 3ph besides the knob at the floor that was mentioned before.
#1 adjusts the down speed
#2 adjusts the up speed (the bolt is under the fender)
If I pull the lever past the little stop on the way up it will send the attachment up too fast for my taste
