Thanks
Rob

What town are you in?

I recently rented a rake and my main word of advise is plan your work so you get as much done during the rental period.

FYI
The rental rule of thumb is: week end rate is 1.5 X daily rate
so week ends are less stressful on the ole bod!
Also;
daily rate = 1% of purchase price
weekly = 5 X daily rate
monthly = 3 x weekly rate.

Not sure that rule applies to a 3pt tiller. The rates seem to be about $100 per day from what I have found. A new tiller (60 inch) shouldn't cost more than $3000. If i could rent one for $30 I certainly wouldn't buy one. As it stands, I am on the fence.

I guess you have to weigh the cost of a new one over how many times you use the impliment. I won't be using the tiller all that much, so I can't justify buying one. I can however justify spending the $135.00 to rent this one time.

Agree. Rates around here are similar, 100 - 200 per day for most impliments. I view it as a good way to try something out or get specialized equipment, but if ill use it regularly i buy it to save the hassle of renting.

The 'rule of thumb' formula that I mentioned earlier was just that. A general rule.
High maintenance or high wear items varied from the rule.
Cutting tools always had a wear limit and you paid separately for wear above a certain limit. If you took a chunk of blade out on a mower blade, you paid for it!
Break a drill bit and it was yours etc.
Rotary impact tools (Kango) always rented higher due to maintenance issues.

The guiding rule was; Rent to use and not to abuse.
