Photo below shows how CC plug converts an open center control valve if it's the convertible type valve.

TX Jim, That really does help. I sent a message to the seller to let them know that I was interested but I had to figure out how to adapt it to the JD 2840 closed center hydraulics. They were kind enough to respond and let me know that I did need a closed center control valve to make it work. I did some searching and ran across the CC plug and wondered if that is all I would need to convert it. Otherwise replacing the whole control valve could add some cost to the purchase. Thank you for that information, I know what to research to see if it can be converted easily. If not, I will look for a similar model that supports that. Thanks!

From viewing your original photo of splitter the valve doesn't appear to be CC convertible type but casting # on valve housing would help determine valve type. On a side note splitter frame is designed for Cat l so you'll need to turn 2840 3pt sway blocks 90° & acquire some Cat l to Cat ll bushings

That lines up with what the seller said. Sounds like I would have to replace the existing control valve completely. I am going to look at either the Northern Tool Powerhorse 11965 or maybe better yet the Dirty Hand Tools 100450. Neither manual says anything about having a CC conversion plug option. I may have to call their support to check.

Thank you for all of the insight!

Good morning. I'm curious if you ended up buying the used one; or purchased a new one? I am also looking for a Cat 1 splitter. I've been splitting wood all summer by hand. While it's good exercise, I also really could use the time savings on other aspects of keeping the property up. I've got a JD1025 and also could use some guidance on making one work for my setup.

Your pump flows 3.5gpm. A small (4" cylinder) dedicated splitter runs 11gpm or so. Larger ones are 16 or more.
3.5 gpm will be frustratingly slow. Get a regular dedicated splitter.
