Hi all,

A local auction house is selling a 6'6" PTO powered single stage snowblower. There is not a price on it yet because the auction starts tommorow.
Have any of you had experience with a single stage unit? I have only seen 2 stage throwers. The unit looks to be in prteey good shape, but I do not want to consider it if it has bad opinions.
All thoughts are welcome!!

Thanks!

If you search the forums you may find the thread where someone built one.

Single-stage machines were simple and inexpensive - no gearboxes, just one rotating weldment on two bearing blocks. There were several models available at one time. Here's a picture of a rear-mounted draw-forward unit that worked quite well. I believe units like this were made by Snow Machines, Erskine, and others.

I was able to get the picture of the unit I was thinking about bidding on. Let me know what you think please.
Thanks!

Let me try this picture again, sorry about the terrible quality. Hopefully some of you have seen this type of blower before

Hi - this design was common in front-mounted snow throwers on garden tractors - and it's a similar style to the one Tig posted about above. As shown in that thread, this type certainly gets the job done. They may not pitch the snow as far as a 2-stage, but that isn't always necessary - or desirable. My neighbor had one on the front of a 22 hp Simplicity - it was fine for a single-width driveway. If the snow was heavy and wet, the big areas needed to be thrown in both directions from the middle outward.
At my place, some parts of the driveway are 25 ft wide and need all the snow thrown in one direction (see pic), so a 2-stage works better for that.
