3 pt Auger not doing its job

/ 3 pt Auger not doing its job #21
Find a hill or something to drive on to get the rear end up high, drop the digger and check your linkage to make sure it travels properly. I have never seen tobacco ground have deadpan, it's usually sandy soil and very soft. I'm thinking soemthing is hitting and not allows it to lower.

I agree. Take off the auger and see what sort of motion the PD has vertically. Something is binding. It's not the ground.

It occurs to me that making sure you have full travel before drilling the first hole is really important. If you corkscrew it and it binds your likely to break something expensive. It's one thing to have to crank the augur out with a pipe wrench, another to have to buy a new drive shaft or whatever bit was weakest.
