3 Pt. Hitch - Extra Tractor Weight ?

A box scraper attached via a quick hitch is a nice amount of weight, doesn't stick out too far, and useful for more than just weight. Like others, I don't have a dedicated weight box because I just keep an implement installed.

I could see use of a weight box if you need to move in extremely tight quarters, or if you simply have no use for any other 3pt implement. For typical users, a box blade or rough mower is a good weight when not in use.

A Titan ballast box and filled tires has worked the best for me. In the past I would use a box blade or backhoe but inevitably they would hang up or strike something while working in tight quarters. I filled the ballast box about half way with iron which leaves plenty of room for tools, chains etc which wasn't the case with the hoe or blade.

I built a 3pt ballast box out of an old leaky 60 gallon air compressor. I rarely if ever use it. I usually have another impliment on. Every other impliment is more awkward & bulkier, than the tank by a fair bit. But it's never been enough of a problem to use dedicated ballast over a 3pt impliment I'll end up using for some task as well as ballast.

A man I know in my town made a 3 pt "bar", not sure exactly what you would call it, but the John Deere suitcase weights just hook to it. Pretty neat, and real compact. Not sure you really get much for the dollar though..When I needed weight I just got a 3pt ballast box, seem to think it was only a few hundred dollars. I fill it with rip rap, so the weight can be adjusted.

This is what I currently use for f I don't have the box blade on.

Each disc is 64 lbs. I have 10 more discs but haven't gotten around to using them to up the weight as the 650 lbs I have approx now seems to be working well.
