I paid $1595 for mine Evil and you would not believe how great it does! Reverse rotary tillers are the only way to go! Good luck, maybe you can find a used one since you aren't in a hurry! :p

Here is a ricer recon I bought for 600.00. Works pretty dang good in my soil.I won't use it much just for a small garden so I couldn't justify paying big bucks for a new one.My 24hp 20pto handles it just fine better than I expected.

I'm not surprised at what things cost these days, but good quality 48-60" tillers are steep! I thought with the new tractor I could retire the earthquake walk-behind for the food plots. Maybe next year... Or the year after that... :(

I bought a $300 Yanmar RS-1200 tiller (48") from my local grey market tractor dealer for use with my Kubota B7510HST. No problems doing veg garden and landscaping chores.

I try to ease the load on the tiller by hitting virgin soil with my middlebuster first.

Why is a reverse tiller so much better?

You could always keep an eye out for local farm sales and auctions or watch craigs list. I got really lucky and was able to pick up an older howard rotovator at an auction about 2 years for 125.00. Only problem was they bent the PTO shaft when they were moving it out of the barn.

My Woods GTC52 was under 1600. I think that's darn cheap for what it does....Reverse tine tillers are better ONLY IF you do not have heavy clay ground or lots of rocks.

Phyxer - My dealer quoted me 2100 for your tiller plus 95 more for the darn slip clutch.

Flusher - I just picked up that same middle buster and I'm looking forward to expanding the garden with it before I till.

I agree they are worth having, but it's definitely a luxury item right now.

Thanks for the comments.

Why is a reverse tiller so much better?

I'm not sure it's better in all cases. It works against the tractor, but it does dig into the soil better and produces a better result with fewer passes. I have so many rocks that magically appear in the same garden every year that I am hesitant to get a reverse model. I have heard they can launch stuff at the tractor.

There seems to be a really big price difference across the nation even within the same brand - I just picked up a 72" KK II with slip clutch gear driven for $1549 at the local Fleet Farm store - they still have 6 left in inventory.

I can't touch the same tiller here in Oregon for less than 1929.00:mad:
