There's a really good chance that the V6 ranger will get just as poor mileage as the 5.4 V8 in the F150. 15 isn't too bad for all of the additional capability and comfort of the full size.

Now if you had chosen a 4 cyl/5 speed/2wd little ranger then you would see excellent mpg for a truck.

I went truck shopping the other day and looked at V6 vs V8 (small block) mileage and they were comparable.

I looked at a 4.0L Ranger SuperCab 4x4, it carried the same EPA rating sticker as the full size Ford. I was shopping for a Ford, but after 3 visits to the dealership (in Roanoke, VA) and no one coming out of the showroom, even with me standing for about 20 minutes in full view beside the truck I was interested in, I went to a small Dodge dealership (Radford, VA) and had a deal worked out in less than 15 minutes. BTW, I have dealt with the Ford dealer on previous automobiles, so it's not like I'm just a tire kicker.

I just traded a Chevy S10 4x4 with a 4.3L V6 for a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with a 4.7L V8. S10 never got over 19 mpg no matter how I drove it, Ram has gotten 20.3 in the first 250 miles. Both are automatic transmissions.

The 4.3 chevy and the 4.0 Ford V6 engines are not good on gas mileage. That is the reason I went with the 3.0 v6, it is quite a bit better than the 4.0.

I should have said 15 if I was lucky and very nice to the throttle. For it's size it wasn't the worst thing on the road but at about 1500 miles a month it was biting pretty bad. My dad lives a few miles away with a half ton truck that sits most of the time (drives a smaller car to work and back, uses truck for working around the farm). 30,000 miles on the truck.. 10,000 there may have been someone else in the truck, less than 1,000 there was someone in the back seat. The truck was also leased, I HATED THE LEASE, I could get out of it early so it left yesterday.

My boat burns about 50 gal per hour at full throttle and about 17 at cruise or 1.1 mpg.............guess thats why it sits a lot..

Moved the gage to about 1/3 of a tank on each tank! Gees... to fill my two tanks on the Ford truck will be about $100.00! Yes... there is a reason why it has two gas tanks... 302 CI and 308 rear end are still 17 MPG at best!

From a mileage stand point, just be glad that you don't have 4.10 gears. I do and I get about 12 MPH. On the plus side, it does pull fantastic. Two weeks ago it cost me $89 to fill both tanks. The price has went down some but I haven't' need to to fill again thank goodness.

The 4.3 chevy and the 4.0 Ford V6 engines are not good on gas mileage. That is the reason I went with the 3.0 v6, it is quite a bit better than the 4.0.

That must be the newer 4.3 chevys. I had a 1993 model in a regular cab 2wd Chevy that got 23-24 mpg highway. Trouble was I was seldom on the highway.

So far my reg. cab Ranger 3.0 v6 auto 4wd is getting about 19.7-21 all the time mileage. If I'm in town more or putting aroudn fields more it goes towards the 19.xx but if on the highway the least little bit it climbs to the 21 area.

As for comfort I like ti better than the 05 F-150 supercab, much easier to drive and manuever and especially when you go to park somewhere in a parking lot. I don't need a 40 acre field to turn it around in.

I have an '01 Ranger, supercab, 4.0L engine, auto, a/c, power everything except the seat; i.e., loaded, but only 2WD. I bought it on 12/20/04 with 36086 miles on it and had 52376 at the last fill up. The best I've gotten on one tank was 22.443 mpg, but overall from the day I bought it, I've averaged 18.729 mpg. It can vary considerably with weather (air-conditioner running or not) and speed and traffic.
