You would be surprised how much of your gas money goes to the government for tax. You don't see many politicians tearing their shirt to get prices lowered.
PA has one of the highest state gas taxes at 31.1 cents per and a diesel tax of 35.1 cents. I'm still not complaining, fuel in this country is very cheap.

Diesel Power, I think that is relative to what a person makes. If someone has a good salary then it may not be a problem. However, if your income is lower, and your in a rural area where you have to drive longer distances to get whatever, then it can be ruinous.
here is a story about gas milage in the real world.
my wife had a 05 grand prix 3800 v6
the sister in law had a civic w/ a 4 banger
on the turnpike running 75-85 mph the grand prix with the larger engine got better mpg than the civic because of engine load. at those speeds the g/p was turning about 1800 to 2100 rpms the civic i would guess was turning in the 3000 rpm range. smaller is not always better. 2 trips back and forth to okc out of the g/p and 1 out of the civic every day for a year. both were brand new cars also
