Like others here, I like to do my own service work. The L2501 is pretty easy to service, even with the stiff factory filters. But the factory filters are IMO very high quality and worth any extra $$. Heavy stiff shells, dust caps or shrink wrap, labeling right on the shells (ie oil, trans, hydraulic), etc. Truth be told, I have not tried to cross reference the filters with any other brand, because I have no interest in hunting down parts that may or may not be inferior. Or spending time collecting these parts from multiple sources. I have a dealer near my house and one near work, so its convenient to pick up factory parts.
Above the forum posts here, I see an Amazon add for a L2501 filter kit with all of the filters by Baldwin, Donaldson, & Sure Filter. These are good brands. The price is at least $45 less than what I've paid. Is it worth it? Maybe. All it takes is one of those filters being incorrect, to cause me to waste a bunch of time though.
