300 lb Rear Blade for BX / Skid Shoes Necessary?

We have a 700' quahog shell driveway I keep plowed with my BX2360 FEL and a TCS 5' back blade. I learned a great trick from the guys here to keep from digging up the drive. :) I think it would also work to keep from digging up or marking any driveway surface .

You take a 2" PVC pipe cut it to the width of your blade then run it through a table saw 1 time then bang it on the blade. It stays on and rides over my drive without digging in. I have also used this on the FEL cutting edge and it keeps it from digging in also. This way I can push really deep snow with the FEL in float position and clean up with the back blade at the same time.

Well, stopped by a Kubota/Case dealer to look at the Land Pride rear blades. The salesman I talked to said I probably would not be happy with the RB1560 for my subcompact. He mostly pointed to the width of the three point hitch connection as the reason, and said he thought I would be happier with the RB0560. There seems really to be very little difference in function. So does anyone agree or disagree? Why would the width of the 3ph make a big difference. Think the 1560 is about 250lbs, 0560 about 190lbs. thanks.

I only have Cat 1 implements for the BX.

I don't think you will be happy with that blade on a BX. I had a Woods RBC60 which is made similar to that blade. The moldboard height is to small. With the BX's 3PH all the way down the blade just barely touched the ground. If you hit a bump it would come off the ground, that makes it tough to do anything. It looked funny on the tractor too. I added a 2nd set of holes to my QH to make it usable. It was to light duty for the BX.

Here is my current blade, a Woods RB60. They are about $675 or $700 new.

If I was going to buy a blade for a BX and it did not have to be QH compatible it would be the EA 5' value blade. If it had to be QH compatible I would look at a Landpride RB1560, RB1660 or a Woods RB60.

I've a 5 ft Frontier back blade that I used on my 4010. Worked great and didn't mess up the asphalt (no broken parts though). It's fairly light and about the right width for the 4010 and now my 1025, which are both right at about 4 ft wide. The blade even works great on snow going forward. Of course, > about 8 to 10 inches, you generally have to resort to the FEL.

Thank you all for the additional information, especially the pictures Bullit. I didn't think the advice I received from the dealer's rep rang true or at least accurate for my equipment. I will definitely lean toward a heavier blade of the one's I'm considering. I've seen some of the macadam scarring work-arounds posted here as well, and will try one of them. I am wondering though why the EA blade which looks pretty nice is not QH acceptable. They site cost on the website, but I don't understand that. Would Pat's Easy Change System work with the EA blade? Thanks!! Appreciate learning from your experience for sure!

For a implement to be QH compatible the lift arm spacing has to be 26" and the top link has to be 18'' about the lift arms. I guess the EA value blade does not have the correct top link spacing. Pats easy change will work with it. For Pats to work good on a BX you should get a set of telescopic stabilizers. Several members got them from Stabil works. StabilWorks

Roger,
The top link should be 15 inches above the lower link for a quick hitch. The standard cat 1 upper link is 18 inches height above the lower links,

FWIW, the TSC rear blade I mentioned is compatible with my IMatch and has a folding support stand too.

This exchange has really been helpful to me and I hope to a few other people who need tractor attachment guidance. Thanks again.

Our EA Value Blades are going to be quick hitch compatible from now on. The hitch has been redesigned to a clevis style and it will come with a stand. Our website will be updated with new prices and pics soon. The price increase is around $90 and we are currently taking orders for the new design.
The same goes for our Compact Tractor Landscape Rake.
