3016 HST. Enough HP?

A HUGE part of the hydraulic thing is education. Most people simply do not know about it. My experience is that a lot of dealers don't know-understand, so don't want to sell the stuff, plus it is costly. I have had dealers flat out tell me "why would I want to sell a top & tilt system to a customer that I have to charge $2000-$3000 ,when I can sell them multiple implements for that much money? The customer is better off with all the implements."

REALLY, so now ALL the 3pt adjustments have to be made manually and that ends up not being made at all after awhile. Everyone ends up with "that's good enough syndrome" simply because they are tired of the tiresome process that it is to make a manual adjustment. When if they had hydraulic adjustments, it takes fractions of a second and all they have to do is touch a lever with their finger tips.

Do people by cars without air conditioning, after all, you don't really need it do you? Think of the thousands of dollars cheaper that the cars could be sold for. But no, pretty much everyone understands the benefits of having air conditioning. Well, people (dealers and the customers) just need to be educated about hydraulic actuated adjustments and the extreme benefits that they can offer.

I bought my 3215 from Dave's Tractor, I'm sure that you know him, West coast Mahindra distributor. Sells A LOT OF TRACTORS. My 3215 was the first 15 series tractor that he had ever sold with the factory rear remote on it.

More that a few people must want this stuff, I'm currently running at a 9 week back log.

This is the main issue for most of the customers... Most and i did say most people simply do not buy compact tractors and do enough work to justify it.. I sell plenty of Hyd. equipment that's not the issue.. we have every bit of it available to the customer. But im not going to stock something to sit on the lot and collect dust... however it can be ordered with no problem if that is the route the customer wants to go. Now loader hyd. equipment... its popular here so yes we keep plenty of it. All these stocking decisions are made off of past/present experiences.. we just aint shooting in tha dark

What on earth would you be doing with a compact tractor to need two sets of remotes?

I have 2 rear remotes on my compact tractor for my hydraulic top link and tilt cylinders.
I can tell you after having top & tilt on my tractors 3 point for the past 14 years I will never own a tractor without it.

It's a "once you have it you don't want to ever go without it." How many cars have "crank" windows nowadays. Auto manufacturers found out a long time ago that "convenience is king"

Well, out of the current 45 different customers that I currently have, 22 of them have compacts that are in the 35hp and below category.

Kodiak makes their bush hogs and box blades, rebranded for Mahindra. They lean towards Howse for their grooming mowers at least here in NC anyway.
I just got the Med. Duty 5 ft Kodiak thanks to some good info from some guys here on the forum. So far i'm happy with it. I got the box blade over 2 years ago and it's still going strong.
The pallet forks I got from Everything Attachments. Couldn't be happier with them. I use them more than the bucket most times.

I'lll second that on pallet forks... extremely handy. Mine are just the clamp on variety but they are surprisingly stout. I cleared out a corner of my acreage with downed limbs and trunks and never had to get off the tractor to move them to a burn pile. Wouldn't be without them.

Thanks for all the great comments and help. Our 3016HST was delivered last week. We did get the rear remote, pallet forks, rotary cutter, SS FEL, and tiller.

It drives like butter! We've put 15 hours on it already mostly mowing the pastures. It never ran short on power, even mowing steep hills with the 5' rotary cutter. I'm really impressed with the fuel economy - averaging 1.25 hours/gallon

Couple of questions, though:

The FEL is really smooth up/down, but jerky when tilting. Is there a 'best' rpm range that will smooth it out?

Is it normal for the FEL to drop over time? It seems that while mowing - a few times - I had to raise the bucket to keep it off the ground. We're talking over many hours.

Finally, my wife claims the cruise control slows down over time. I didn't use it, so I can't comment. She says she had to keep resetting it to maintain speed on level ground.

Congrats!!! I'm glad you are happy with it. Yes it is normal for your loader to drift down a little. as far as the jerky tilt I'm not sure maybe air in the line or it might take some getting used the controls to. If it is air normally if you just hold control lever all the way for about 20 seconds it can work its way out. The Cruise control sounds like a adjustment I would just give your dealer a call and see what he says.

The rear remote can be installed by removing the seat and the plastic cover panel on the inside of the fender. Not that big of a deal. If your dealer is willing to sell it to you for $850, get it, that is a deal. This valve also has the float function with it, it is a good clean setup. If you think that you will ever need more than one remote, then forget about it and just go aftermarket. Mahindra only offers a single rear remote option for their 16 series tractors. Morons :sigh:

People always seem to say that the lower HP models will do the same work as the higher HP models and for the most part they are right. What the main difference is, is the speed that the job can be done with the higher HP model. This applies to most all types of work, not just PTO work. Example, your pulling a loaded box blade up hill. 30 HP tractor is struggling but not breaking traction and getting the job done. The 36 HP tractor does the same, except does not struggle and can actually move along at a faster rate. So moving the same amount of material, just faster.

Just my :2cents:, I'm sure that you will be happy with either machine. :thumbsup:

I've been reading here & there to help with choosing a tractor for myself and the 3016 is what I have my eye on mainly because it can lift 1,600 lbs at the pins. What disappoints me is that the dealer only offers a single rear remote as an option. Where can I look to have multiple remotes I can install? I want a remote for the grapple & snow blade (angle) and two at the rear for box blade, rear blade leveling.
