Man, that sounds like it could be difficult to re-attach the loader if you removed it that way. What did you do on your 8N? Did you have a lot of problems getting the arms and masts lined back up to reinstall the loader? Did you have to support the arms somehow when they were removed?

I wrote how I did it back in post #11. We had an old swing set and just used a chain wrapped around the top of the swingset and around the loader arm. We would take the top pins out firsts and use the hydraulics to push the rams out a little wrap chain around then bring rams back in. Pulled bottom pins and used a bungee or wire to tie rams to loader arms and then unhook hoses and back away. This was not hard at all.
To hook back up. Pull tractor back under loaderhook up hoses. Hook up rams first using the hydraulics to adjust to put in pin. Then use hydraulics to adjust to put top pins in. The first time I did it it took about 1/2 an hour. Then it got easier and took anywhere from 10-20minutes depending on if it were in the winter or the summer.
This is how many of the older style loaders came off and went back on years ago. I think it would be easier on the JD loader becuase it is alot smaller and lighter than what was on my 8n.

Forty years ago it was a common sight to see the FarmHand loader chained up under a heavy wooden frame (looked like a giant sawhorse or swingset).

Lot's of farmer's would only need/use their loaders for hay season and winter feeding or snow removal.

Take 'em off for spring/summer farming use.

I agree with the posters stating that it is not a big deal to take off a non quick attach loader. It just takes more time. There are many impliments/attachments that are used on real farm machinary and are not quick attach. They are made that way for a number of reasons but mostly beacause they are only added or removed once or twice a year. If you really don't beleive you will need to be removing the loader on regular bases for some future use then don't let the loader be the deciding factor.

The only thing that may be a consideration is the resale value. If you don't think you may be selling trading it after a few years, it may be harder to sell without the quik attach loader.

Again....depends on the person with the cash....weather new or used, I would pay a premium for a non-removable solidly mounted loader. The average "non tractor city slicker" who needs to sell the tractor to SWMBO and needs a "swiss army tractor" to do so would pay more for a removable sub-par loader...

You bring up the best point - that is resale value. If you plan to keep iron up to date don't buy what you want, buy what the market will want in a few years and that will likely be the quick attach feature, this is why dealers push them - far as this farmer is concerned quick attach is better than sliced bread - but my two tractors each do mowing of ditches, slopes - then dirt work with blades and backhoe - I take loaders off regularly it seems in the summer months.

Well, it's a good thing that John Deere makes both!! (What was that old MacDonald's commercial... You can have it YOUR way!)

Merry Christmas to every TBNer! Best wishes for the New Year!
