john deere 950
Hey folks. my step dad bought a John Deere 950 in a private sale and got no information with it. I believe its a 3 cylinder engine. he has no idea what kind of oil or how much. I was told 7 quarts of 15-40. is this correct? it sounds like too much to me.

Probably closer to 4 quarts. Do not dump 6 or 7 quarts in that sump!
I suggest adding 3 quarts, checking the level and adding another half a quart and check again. Add a bit more, if necessary. Remember, it's better to a a bit low then excessive oil in the sump.

As a comparison, my Deere 4400 (also a Yanmar engine, like the 950) takes 4.3 quarts of oil per change...

BTW, make sure the oil is diesel rated!

Believe you can order an owners manual from Deere. Think the 950 manual code is OMR68993 but with a serial number and a call to JD pubs they can confirm what you are looking for.
